President Trump’s 75-year-old CFO Allen Weisselberg was sentenced to months in prison in Rikers Island for not paying taxes on a company car and the use of a company apartment.

As President says, “He didn’t pay taxes on the use of a company car – does anyone?”

This is the latest example of a corrupt justice system that is out to ruin the lives of their political opposition.

it was a company car? ya, NO ONE pays a tax on a car the company owns. The company pays the tax, and the registration/inspection fees. as CFO, he's only responsible for making sure the company pays all taxes.

The personal use of a company-owned automobile is considered part of an employee's fully taxable wage income and proper documentation is vital. If you cannot determine business versus personal use, the value of the vehicle would be 100% taxable to the employee for both types of usage.

Not necessarily true. Government employees who have take home cars are often taxed on the commute use of the car to get to work— it’s a big money saver for those who get it. It’s considered taxable compensation in many cases on the individual. It’s the same with other company cars. It’s often in the higher position individuals compensation packages.

I agree, but I would think accountability would include back taxes and a fine. The only reason there is jail time for such an offense is his relationship with trump. This is repugnant behavior, particularly when violent criminals are getting let out with no bail and short sentences when convicted. But just like the Jan 6 "insurrectionists" the government has decreed they must be made an example.

Just another example of how this country is a banana republic.

Many police departments provide take home cars to certain administrators, supervisors, and investigators. Many believe this is a taxable benefit, and in the private sector, that is absolutely true. A take home vehicle that you have full personal use of is a very lucrative benefit, thus taxable.


I know that many of the officers that are assigned to take home car, they do not have full use of that vehicle off duty. Most that I know they cannot use it during their personal use. From this quick search that I did, because they don't have full use on their personal time they are not obligated to pay taxes on it.

I am aware and see plenty of law enforcement (NYSP, Deputies, Village, Town, & City, etc) that take unmarked as well as marked cars home.

I have seen many leo use the car off duty. I know many who use the official vehicle to commute back and forth from home and are not taxed for the benefit. I know of NYS Troopers who commuted for hours every day on the taxpayers dime. I know some said it was not a taxable benefit but a public service. Routinely see both uniformed and plain clothes using official vehicles for personal use on duty at coffee shops, ATMs, donut shops, delis, Walmart, pharmacies, etc.

Also have read news stories of stolen firearms, badges, and radios taken from a patrol vehicle parked in the driveway of an off duty Leo's home.

Quite a few. One major difference is when are they “on duty”. If they are on duty when they get in the car, it’s different than if they commute to work in it.

I was referring to unmarked vehicles. Marked vehicles, both police and commercial vehicles are probably treated differently.

And the LE I know who pay taxes for the unmarked take home vehicles get that tax put on their W-2 ( or whatever the tax form is) by the bean counters at their department.
