After reading your thread title, and before clicking, I was going to suggest getting a block of billet aluminum and a mill.

Its poured! It got hot enough that my graphite crucible got squishy! I've never seen that happen before.

In a few minutes I'll crack it open and see if so have something useable, or if I need to start over.

What am I looking at? Do you do anything to keep the zinc in the brass from evaporating? I've read that covering the brass with ashes, as it melts the ash stays on top helping to keep the zinc in. DO NOT breath that stuff!!!!!

I assume you make more than you need. Just curious how you calculate/guesstimate how much raw material you'll need.

It took me about 3 months to have enough time and good weather to get this done. Most Sundays aren't so fun.

You going to put a cleaning rod port in the back of the receiver? That way you don’t have to remove the barrel the clean it from chamber to crown.

I lined the inside with fireplace brick and insulated behind the brick and the lid with a mix of vermiculite and plaster.

I made the burner from combining a few different ideas I saw on-line. Propane goes through a tiny hole, and mixes with air in a steel tube. The hotter it gets, the more air it sucks in and the better it burns.

Its a Grizzly 8689 mini mill. With any luck, I might be upgrading soon!
