9 Critical Concealed Carry Lessons

I found this YouTube series over the weekend. I haven't made if very far in it yet. So far I think it's a pretty fair discussion on the various topics. The reason I am making this thread is to discuss video #3 about edge weapons. This video has changed my perception on how to deploy a CC firearm and edged weapon. I will be looking into one of the knives he recommends and carry it when I'm CC'ing. I think when I'm not CC'ing I will stick with just a folder(which I need to upgrade desperately). So here's the link and please discuss.

I do too but he had a good point about being able deploy a gun or folder while wrapped up. I also thought it was a valid point about stabbing and hitting something hard. Most pocket style knives don't have much guards to protect your handle from getting cut.

To me his points were valid enough for me to consider changing up.

I carry the CRTK M16 ti daily but in country I carry a TOPS Sky Marshal and a SOG fixed blade trainer.

Damn impressive I can't imagine carrying anything of that size on me daily. So I'll take it you agree with his opinion woke sort of easily deployed fixed blade is a better compliment when carrying a gun than a folder is?

Yeah in his scenarios it is better to have a fixed blade. I carry fixed blades overseas because of the threat level, rapid deployment (especially in vehicles) and I can carry it on my body armor. I carry a folder in the states because of convenience. I am Not looking to get into a knife fight anytime soon.

I haven't watch the videos yet but I will. I do carry a folder every day. CRKT - M16-14SF. I'm not familiar with the name of each part but I like the 2 pieces that stick out to stop my hand from sliding down the blade. Those tabs also catch on my pants pocket so I can 1 handed instantly deploy the blade if needed. I carry it in my weak side pocket in case someone tries a gun grab and my right hand is protecting my gun.
That little knife is for everyday cutting. Big 1 tends to scare people

His point in the video if you didn't get your CC pistol out in time and are wrapped up with someone deploying a folder with your weak hand is basically impossible. Which I feel like I can deploy my folder fast and one handed. But could I do it while taking a pounding, I don't know. I have always carried a folder on me since high school. It never crossed my mind when I started CC'ing I should probably change my knife selection and style of carry to complement my primary weapon rather than it be two independent systems.

On a side note I feel this guys pain. Getting a spare tire after service and still in the mindset of tight T-shirts. He needs to give into the baggy shirt thing I know I still have trouble with it. Also more and more I'm CC'ing I've been throwing around the idea of becoming a flannel guy and ditching the T-shirts.

Nope.
I don't think it's legal to conceal a fixed blade in NY.
The 2 tabs will prevent my hand from sliding down onto the blade.
I can 1 handed deploy as it comes out of my pocket.
I have always carried my folder on my weak side for the exact reason he was talking about.
But now that you question this I have to go back and watch video three to see if I missed something

Actually unless you have a knife like a Buck knife or a Leatherman or something like that, that isn't too dangerous, it is illegal to carry a knife.

§ 265.01. Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree

A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when:

(2) He possesses any dagger, dangerous knife, dirk, razor, stiletto, imitation pistol, or any other dangerous or deadly instrument or weapon with intent to use the same unlawfully against another;

You covered the gist of it. He did say that he use to train SF and the couldn't deploy a folder weak handed under duress. Now I don't know this guy so I can't say if he's exaggerating or telling a 100% truth but it was enough to give me pause. I do agree your knife is one of the few folders I do believe gives enough protection against you hand sliding down the blade. Before this video I was like you and was unworried about being able to deploy my folder under duress. The video has me questioning what I thought I knew. But I will admit I carry a cheapo strong side with little to no hand protection. So I guess that will need to be improved.

A friend of mine went through this awhile ago.
He had to get a Certificate Of Relief for a 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon that he was arrested for 30 years ago. He got the COR because NYS had NICS deny him a gun purchase.
Anyways, we learned alot about knife laws.
My buddy had a switchblade which is illegal but because he was not using it in an unlawfull way, he only got a $100 fine.
The judge said if he was planning on using it unlawfully, it would be a much worse charge.
The judge suggested he carry a pocket clip folder or a "small" fixed blade.

Also, my friend was told that in reference to that law the term "dangerous knife" refers to a switchblade or a gravity knife.
