9mm recommendations

Back when I first started getting into pistol shooting I was looking at 9mm handguns, and saw a Smith & Wesson similar to their 4506 but in 9mm.
I ended up getting the Ruger P95 instead. While fun, it ultimately was not what I wanted.

Fast forward to today... after having many .22, a .357 revolver, and the 45 1911, I'm back to wanting a 9mm handgun other than my carry. I would still like a metal frame handgun, but the only Smith&Wesson I see available now is the 910, and there's no where local to even look at one.

So..

Recommendations on a full frame, preferably metal, 9mm that is a good shooter if I use it for competitions, but also just for plinking.

I dont know Beretta very well but deff want one. Whats the one the military used? M9A1? Looks very similar to the 92X. Not sure what the differences are lol. I looked at one at my LGS I think it was a 92X and I went to try the trigger and yep the safety was on. Thats why I dont think id ever want a gun like that to carry, but im now seeing they offer kits to delete the safety and make it a decocker only. Love that idea.

I have a Sig P226 that I have been real happy with. They make a 22 conversion kit for it too. I also have a P230 (mentioned above) and find I am more accurate with the P226. Of course I have have had a lot more practice with the P226. Cant beat the quality.

p226 is one of the finest guns ever made I think. Really want a 229 Legion.

Can't go wrong with that suggestion.
Here's mine:

This pistol has been 'worked over'! It came out of the CZ Custom shop, then took a trip to CGW for it's final mods. This pistol is one of the best (if not THE best) I've EVER shot, and I've shot a bunch of 'em!!

I would also recommend the Beretta 92, as they are without a doubt a solid performer. I have a full size, I wouldn't want to carry it all day, but it definitely will perform when needed. They are both excellent choices for a GREAT day at the range!

The one I have is the earlier version called the 'Baby Eagle'. It is by far the nicest semi-auto pistol I have ever shot, solidly built, excellent trigger. I don't know about the new one but was told that CZ has a hand in them so I would expect them to be of the same quality. Like any pistol, you really need to hold it and preferably shoot it, everyone's hand is different.
