There is a place for everything. If one is restricted to a small barreled pistol and normal defense one might choose grain
vs. speed. Extra bore is a good way to introduce extra bore and a 45 hits like a bowling ball.
But if one has modern pistol with small frame they might choose a fast caliber with enough powder to move a 125 gr bullet
with higher or equivalent density of much heavier bullets and use it to penetrate.
This is important for police and military where they might be presented with situation they have shoot through doors and
glass. The SIG is expensive. My PD has it because they have the budget but others cannot afford it.
The 9mm and 40 cal continue to be optimal defense options too. Less weight more firepower, more hits.
The key is the training. more important for the average officer than anything else and they do not get enough of it.
some take this seriously and train, sadly many often on their own dime.

Anyone who can shoot a hot 40 caliber accurately can shoot the 357 sig even more accurately. Flatter shooting.
A medium size pistol in fact matches and might even improve the speed and performance of the 357 magnum in the same barrel length

These rounds will expand as much as your .45 aceepee if not more and will outpenetrate it as well on harder barriers with a muzzle velocity of about 500fps more than the aceepee with the 124 gr....

I don't know haha. A box of 9mm? That is what I carry most of the time anyway! I will shoot through a frying pan like the one in the videos you posted with a .45 acp and factory ammo.

I think we are going to have to do this! Lol.
In all honesty, I think the 185 gr+P with a 5 inch barrel will get the job done but I don't think a. 230 gr going at 850 fps would make it.
We will see.
The real question is who's frying pan is getting it.

I have them both, I like them both. The gun you use for its intended purpose and how you control it is way more important than comparing either calibers that obviously both kill.

I have a .45 as well. A Colt mark IV Series 70 in stainless. I actually carried that behemoth for a few years.

That was my first gun. I carried that thing even in the summer. I was so used to it and didn't know any better until my friend bought the XDS .45. it felt like a whole pound lighter.
I couldn't believe the weight difference so I got an XDS in 9mm for the extra rounds and then I saw the light!
That sweet versatile 9mm.

What Willi said above hits the nail on the head. MyG21 handles the recoil better than my G26...it's a larger framed pistol. It also has more of a "heavy push" backwards opposed to any "snap" from 9mm or 40S&W.

I have to disagree as well. When shooting my G21 along with various friend's 1911's (Kimbers, Springfield's, RIA, etc.) there are ALWAYS comments on how nice and light the G21 is compared to all others. And even with that overall lightness, it still has less perceived felt recoil to most shooters trying it...making most of their response's to be that of "that was really nice to shoot...". And yes, the reliability isn't even something that can be argued, IMO. One range session with my G21 and my buddy's prized Kimber had him salivating over the weight difference, the perceived felt recoil, and the fact that the G21 wasn't hiccuping (at least once) during every magazine.
Obviously just a counter opinion, anyone else's MMV.
