It is very different IMO. Senior discount is because you’re retired and you have reduced income in theory. Many jobs get discounts because they service lots of that group. They offer those discounts to get you to come in. My wife gets lots of discounts through her job as do I.

I’m going to be honest. If it benefited me, then the answer is yes. It’s not my concern how much money they want to lose with a discount for me. I take advantage of my veteran’s discount when I get oil changes. I took advantage of a USDA program that backs no money down loans with closing costs included in the loan itself with no PMI to first time home owners who buy in rural areas. One of the program’s reasons for existence was to move urban people from the cities to rural areas. I did not live in the city at the time nor was I low income but my broker said that he could make it happen and he did. It is beyond my pay grade on how he made it happen. He recommended it to me because it was easier then getting a VA backed loan and this type of loan had a lower interest rate anyway.

I’d be curious to see what would happen if you go there with your ancestry.com DNA report and show them the 2 percent Native American that lots of whites have.

That's what I was getting at. If you're willing to make a big enough stink, there are good arguments to use their logic against them. In Plessey vs Ferguson, it was a man who was 1/8 black and 7/8 white that was discriminated against as being black, and then you can bring up the 1-drop rule. I'd say most white Americans whose family aren't all recent immigrants have a good shot of having at least 1 black ancestor. "Who are they to discount your feelings of suffering and oppression knowing that your one ancestor suffered such terrible discrimination. Guess the 1-drop rule only applies to discrimination, not towards redressing the horrors of that systemic discrimination."

My Cousin from my dad’s side who is a red headed ginger has a few percent points of African. She was shocked.

My dad’s side who thought they were descendants of Italy have over 60 percent of Spanish and Portuguese DNA.

Lots of whites who think they are whites have a few percentage points of Native American and African in their DNA.

Agreed that's not what it's intent was / is currently.

Still, even if it was justified in doing so (it's not) the concept of Affirmative Action is inherently ineffective at true advancement. It would be much better to help students learn and get better scores / be more successful in life, then to perpetuate the illusion of success. That is why it hurts blacks more than it helps, because it doesn't fix the why of them getting lower scores.

Then when they cut him off he pays the neighborhood kids $10/ bike to get him more.

There is only one legitimate business reason for discounts, and that is to increase your bottom line.

The perfect discount would be the "cheap bastard" discount (and the senior discount is pretty close). Where you only discount products for people who would not purchase them without the discount. But in the real world that is very hard to police.

There are a few that get a bit complicated because they have very difficult to measure benefits. How much does your police discount reduce your chance of robbery by increasing the police presence in your store ?

But your discounts are based on choices you made not things you can’t change. I don’t blame you for that. I did a first time home buyers program too.
