A girl died Monday target practising.

This past weekend a 13 year old local girl (Arlington, washington] got killer target shooting. Sunday the family went to Cle Elum for the day and were target shooting. She reloaded her gin, set it down on the table 100% ready to shoot with the safe off. She went down range to check her target and the mom's boyfriend noticed the gun was ready to shoot.
He picked it up to put the safe on and the gun discharged striking the girl in the head.
She was airlifted to Harborview Hospital in Seattle and was put on life support.
Monday they pulled the plug and the girl.passed away.
I haven't heard if there will be any charges filed yet.
Shit happens, that's why you never leave loaded guns anywhere while out shooting.

This is why went I go shooting generally it is just me and one other person. Very seldom will I ever go with two people.

This is among one of the many reasons I don't go to public ranges anymore. I've seen more than once cease fires and then people handling their guns when people are down range. Then when the people down range freak out and tell the people to put their fucking guns down and not touch them the people are bewildered and think what's the big deal. I've even witnessed someone totally not paying attention shoot when there were people down range setting up targets. Needless to say the people setting up targets were pissed.

Multiple things wrong here. Going down range with a loaded gun on the table? The guy picking up a gun while someone is down range? And exactly how does a gun go off while the safety is being put on? A damn shame this all could have been avoided.

Can't emphasize this enough. Once everyone has given the all clear, firearms should not be touched, at all. Firearms do not fire for no reason.

Also, more reason to have an open bolt indicator as well. The range I go to requires them, and it makes me feel safer knowing people use them. I'm fine with waiting a few extra seconds for someone to clear the bolt and throw one in.

Once I had to yelled at a lady for picking up her gun while there were still people down range checking their targets.
I keep my head on a swivel when I'm at a public range. you can't be too careful. It only takes one bullet to turn off the lights permanently.

One of the absolute best rules ,all gun must be cased once some one goes down range. When ever I am on a active range and some one call a cold range to reset targets I insist some one stays at the 5 yard line facing the shooting line and confirm no one is near the tables . Personally I am petrified to go down range with strangers on the line, And when you have to yell back NO HANDLING we have people down range. And some A Hole yells back " I WAS JUST MAKING SURE THE SAFTEY WAS ON.

No handling means no handling.

The more time spend on the range the more unsafe stuff I see. Last night as I was leaving our club range. 2 guys came into the range as we were leaving and with his back to the range he removed his gun from his bag and then swept me and a co worker and his shooting buddy as he turned around to go to his port,I was just walking out and was tired and cranky and decided not to say any thing.
Last night I was thinking about it and I should have had taken the time to point out the error and then explained the club rules. Going forward that is the action I will take. I am angry at my self for not pointing out the guys error as he might not realize its dangerous and against the rules.

This morning I put a copy of the club rules in my shooting bag and next time I will point it out

this happened to me last week, the IDIOT was fumbling around and changing the battery in his red dot when the range was cold and people were down range changing targets.

he said to me "I didn't want to Hold people up while i changed the battery"

Even if it's falling off the table it's safer to let it drop than it is to try and catch it.
