Also be prepared to turn people away. I know I will have too. One of those I will have to turn away is my sister since she’s a freeloader and have 6 people in her family. She literally will bring nothing to the table and will drain resources. So that may too further split my network. So honestly I may very well end up on my own or taking in less desirable network folks just to have an extra set of eyes since I can’t be up 24/7 watching the perimeter.
Whats he gonna do when the wifi doesn't work either?
I beg to differ on that one. My sister is totally useless and is not trustworthy. I’d take a stranger off craigslist in some cases over her.It would be better to have your blood sister as an extra set of lookout eyes on the roof than taking in some stranger or neighbor. Either one would be a drain on resources but you can't be up there 24/7 on your own.
I think people are mistaking Mike Glover's intent with this website / app idea. I'm pretty sure he intends for it to be a way to share intel, methods, and help to people network UP TO whatever is coming. Kind of a central insecure information clearinghouse.
I doubt he is under the illusion that it would be a primary communications channel during an event. But, I do think he intends part of that pre-event discussion to be about setting up actual comms options.
It'd be tricky, because there is a very thin line between generic exchanges and compromising any local opsec, but I think there is use for something like this. We'll see what happens with it. I don't know what kind of resources he has.
Notwithstanding the know it all’s here who think they know everything, you can send emails to each other over ham radio waves.
We can use this system to talk to one another “Project Hometown” style from our bunkers.I just watched, a few weeks ago, one of my prepper YouTube guys talk about this. He is new to it, so his knowledge was limited. Pretty neat shit.
The whole Ham thing, it is on my short list of gaining some knowledge.
Thats a great start. But the way I see it is you need 10-15 people to defend a base like that. You need full time perimeter security. Even if you ran 12 hr shifts thats at least 8 people a day for that. Now you need people to hunt, farm, etc... the need for more people is a requirement for long term survival at a single location in a shtf scenario.Have about 60 acres far away enough away from cities, owned jointly with my brother. Has a 10' tall block building, with all the requirements, wood stove, bedding for 6, etc. Properly stocked. Close to a creek for water. Mainly used for hunting / weekends away. He's like minded. If anything gets too sketchy, I'll be there and separate myself from the nonsense. Not looking for a group of people, too much risk.
Celt, regarding an app, there is one already out there called Zello. It works off of WiFi or cellular data. It’s a 2 way walkie talkie that has unlimited range as long as you have a connection, records transmissions so you can hear them later, is encrypted to only allow the users you add to a specific talk group to get transmissions, and you can send pictures and texts through it.No worries, I was only listening not watching so I didn't notice that. But the point is the same, his intent is to setup the network so people have a resource to contact each other in the event that something goes bad. And there's a lot more to it than that, it would be organized, he would offer training, Etc. He wants to create an app that would work off Wi-Fi in the event that cell service is shut down.
thats pretty cool, Ill have to look into it.Celt, regarding an app, there is one already out there called Zello. It works off of WiFi or cellular data. Just means you'll get over run quick. There's going to be people looking for such camps as yours.Have about 60 acres far away enough away from cities, owned jointly with my brother. This is exactly the way ive lived for 20 years. Not specifically for whats happening now but for any SHTF scenerio.Thats a great start. But the way I see it is you need 10-15 people to defend a base like that. You need full time perimeter security. Even if you ran 12 hr shifts thats at least 8 people a day for that. Its not too late to get something together. The challenge comes for those of us who aren't well networked and are realizing late in the game that we should have been doing so. It's a process, and now time is short.
He'd get your generator running off the gasifier pretty quickly I imagine. Its not too late to get something together.
It doesnt have to be military level training and 24 hour patrols.
Just like minded people with common sense and a bit of knowledge.
We have 9 people in our "group".
Me and 1 other guy have more advanced tactical capabilities and considerable combat expierience.
We have 2 nurses, one has been a trama and ER nurse for 10 years. And I am a DVM which can come in handy.
And 1 guy is an absolute master of everything mechanical. He built a gasifire for his 1980 Toyota truck and he built a steam powered lawn tractor out of literal garbage from the junk yard that works great. He uses it with a trailer to haul stuff around his property. He can build anything and is a wizard at physics and such.
However most are not tactically minded at all, but all have their uses.
My wife is a great cook and we have processed food for 2 decades.
We use alot of old school techniques for processing food that doesnt need modern equipment or electricity......salting, smoking, fermenting, canning, drying....
I also have a 10,000 w generator that can be run off NG.....and thats where my mechanical buddy comes in......if NG becomes unavailable he WILL find a way to pump it green from the ground.
