I hope federal laws trump state carry laws like NJ/NY/MA. ie: permits not required for recruiters from Texas assigned to liberal hell holes. And screw magazine limits.

I am all for this. It was the Clinton's that disarmed the military way back when. Back then islaofacist terrorism was a criminal offense. Now, because Obama thought is was a good idea to stop fighting them in their back yard we are now fighting them in our own back yard.

I spoke to my brother about this yesterday. He is up at Drum. He said the policy is that you must have a valid, local permit. So I told him to change his drivers license from his Staten Island address and apply for a permit in whatever county that is. He doesn't seem to care too much, but I'm going to keep bugging him and maybe offer to buy his first handgun.

Suppose you are stationed in Drum but your legal address is Vermont? I would think there's a YUGE class action lawsuit waiting in the wings on this one. And Trump is free to change the Regs.

active duty and guard/reserve do not need carry permits. Their military training covers them. They get qualified and documented for the arms they carry. Must be qualified on any rifle/handgun/etc they carry. That's how it was and I assume today after being retired military since 2003.
On base maybe, but not off and probably not even within recruiting stations. It's a big deal to have armed soldiers on the streets without civilian oversight.

While on orders. What about driving home or going to the grocery store? Also how many are qualified on hand guns?
Also to me it's not fair to make them change their addresses. What if they are in nj or Erie county ny where it's hard to get one or takes a long time to get one. Also the tax rate of nys and other costs are much larger than other states so not fair. They are some of the best trained men and women in the world on firearms. Make it happen. It's ridiculous. We know Isis called for them to get attacked so why not allow them to defend themself.

While off duty firearms are secured. Officers are all trained on side arms..enlisted depends on rank and AFSC...(specialty code)
There are so many IFS WHEREAS etc that the statement is ridiculous. Especially the one about complying with state and local laws.

My military experience is very limited and very long ago. Active duty in the USCG Boston 1975 ,on the ship you had to store it with the gunner's mates. at the small boat station in nyc a few, 10% of guys kept handguns in their lockers when not carrying, in their briefcase on the boat. I didn't see more than one or two guys carry off duty in nyc.
1990's nyc army national guard infantry lots of guys carried concealed, I would say 25% of an infantry company. We went for medicals once and the sgt major set up a desk to check your handgun before you went into the hospital. I think 36 guys checked pistols with him and only 6 were cops...
When we were in the field training, most nco's kept a 20 round magazine of 5.56 handy. "You never know what you're going to run into in the woods."
I never heard anybody ask about a pistol license or permit when I was in.
In two different firehouses over 30 years I worked with 3 firemen who always carried a handgun in their coat pocket, almost the same thing was said as above, "You never know what you're going to run into on the roof."
