Adventures at the Indoor Shooting Range

My wife has a Glock 19 and can handle it pretty well but in my opinion doesn't practice enough. So, I said "Hey, let's take a drive to the Indoor Shooting Range and get some practice in".
Got there and we each had adjacent lanes even though the range was busy. Really nice range with motorized target placement/retrieval etc.
Anyways, she's shooting away and I reeled in my target in for a new one. As I'm about to hang the target I notice she had a jam and was doing something stupid to clear it. I took my eyes and mind off what I was doing and proceeded to staple my hand to the target.
She sees this and loudly yells "Why is there blood all over your target!!"
All the shooting stopped. Dead silence.
I told everyone "Nope nothing, nothing just a staple to target injury"

It was a big hit and a topic of conversation at the range the rest of the day.

You guys MUST have some interesting experiences as well.

I went to the range and only took one .38spl. that belongs to my wife, I loaded up five rounds of home rolled wad cutters and pulled the trigger and POP! Aw shit, I know that sound, opened the cylinder and dumped out 4 live rounds and one empty case, took a look down the barrel and nope no light. Not only did I have a squib, but also on the first round of about 300 I loaded but I didn't even have a second gun with me!
Normally I take several guns and a small tool kit in my range bag that includes a brass rod. Oh well that trip was a short one.
I now have to go back and weigh each and every round to see what ones got short changed on powder and what ones got doubled. I'm not worried about a double as it was pretty much a mouse fart load to start with.

Brass BB’s are the worst for ricochets

Last summer I shot one of those at my light pole (think telephone pole) it ricocheted right back at me and hit me on the side of the head.

I actually saw the bb heading back my way and had just enough time to turn my head.

I don't shoot bb's at the light pole anymore.

I have done plenty of stupid stuff, but nothing at the range. But have witnessed plenty of others. I used to be part of a range that had a roof over the shooting area. I noticed that almost every shooting area had holes overhead through the metal roof. It was obvious they were from shooting accidents, but how?!?! Well one day I was at the range and this old fella was down on the other end. He was shooting double action revolver and after firing a round off the recoil brought the revolver right up damn near his head with muzzle pointing up. He then discharged another round right through the roof. He didnt know I saw him and played it off like it never happened. And from that day I had the answer to that question that was baffling me. I thank God I have my own range now. Even my kids know better than to do something so stupid.

Years ago I went to the range just off N. Falls Blvd. in Wheatfield. There was a trio of “Amish” youts having way too much fun and playing with their AR-15. No RO anywhere to be found. Then the idiots swept me.

I packed my stuff and left. Never went back there again.

Not at a range but at private land. I shoot there and the owner has grandkids that are too young to shoot and the one has developmental disabilities so you know they just allow that kid way too much latitude. He’s asked me to shoot with the kid and I refuse. If I go there I ask if they will be there and if the answer is yes my guns stay at home. One time I was there and the kid with disabilities had a BB gun next to me and his grandpa and the kid was walking around d with it and then decided to turn around and look at the barrel. The only reaction was a laugh so that solidified my decision to never shoot with them there or bring my guns out around them.

Had a buddy come to my house to shoot. After we were done with the rifles we pulled out the handguns and started shooting an old junk car off the side of the trail. We were just putting holes in the body panels so I decided to shoot the bumper with my 40. The round bounced off and came back at me. I saw it and turned my gun sideways and managed to block it. He saw it happen and walked over and found the round. It was completely flat and there was only a dent in the bumper. We adjusted our angle and shot more but only managed to dent that bumper. They really don't make cars like they used to

Accidentally swept someone at an open range with my Glock 37 when I was trying to get out a stuck casing.

I had already dropped the mag and the round was already fired but I still felt like a complete idiot. I apologized to the old man and explained the gun wasn't hot.

I went to a shooting class once and the guy running it had never been there before and you could tell the set up wasn’t what he had expected. He had us shoot really close to an old style backstop range and a few of us said are you sure. He kind of looked around like he was u sure then said yep it’s safe and to go ahead. We all got peppered with lead ricocheting back at us and one guy had a pretty bad cut below his eye on his cheek. The guy running the class then made a comment to remind him not to schedule live fire classes here again. I think we were only 5 yards away or something stupid.

Parents letting kids get away with poor muzzle control always drives me batty.

Trust me on this, I will have no problem straightening out your kid if I catch them sweeping someone and you don't. Don't like it? IDGAF.

At the high school range, while waiting for the order to fire, I touched off a round into the ceiling. Broke two rules with one shot. Releasing the safety only when on target, and finger off the trigger until ready to fire. However, I did get the award that year for most improved shooter.

At the class my wife and I took to remove restrictions from our permits, she kept hitting the clip holding the target instead of the target itself. I was amused, the RSO was not.

In her defense, she was shooting a snub-nose and the target was a fair bit away from her.

I am planning to take my son and grandson here this weekend. My 25-year-old grandson has never fired a firearm and wants to learn what it's all about. Has anyone been here before? What is your opinion of the facilities?

Used to shoot bullseye at the Syracuse Pistol Club, both rimfire and centerfire.

One night we were starting the first stage of centerfire (indoor - winter) and when we all start firing, there's this incredibly loud muzzle blast near the other end of the line from me - sounded like a .44 magnum or .454 Casull

All of a sudden, right after about the 3rd or 4th monstrous muzzle blast, a magazine goes flying forward of the firing line, shedding floor plate, follower, spring and mag body about 6-7 feet forward of the line. Loaded cartridges rolling around the floor.

The range officer calls a stop, everyone cleared their weapons and the range officer goes out and recovers the pieces.

It was a 10 mm (Glock I think) used by a newer member who was there with his buddies. One of those buddies had reloaded the ammo for him. They were all double charged. He's lucky the whole thing didn't detonate. It actually bulged the lower frame of the pistol.

He rather quickly became a "non-member" and was banned from the club.
