Advice wanted on a Marlin 30-30

I just purchased a Marlin 30AS 30-30 about 2 weeks ago. I have completely refinished the stock and cleaned the rifle up so it looks real nice. I am now thinking about putting on a Skinner rear sight. Does anyone have any advice on whether Skinner sights are worth changing too? Which sight would you recommend ,the Express or the Alaskan? Does adding this sight cause me to change out the front sight? Any thoughts, suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

I don’t have any answers for you as I’ve never used the Skinner sights on any of my lever guns. However , I am planning on putting a Marbles tang sight on my Uberti 1873 .45c lever gun and in searching for videos on that subject on YouTube I came across several videos about Skinner sights on various lever guns. You may want to search those out for the information that you are looking for.

I put Alaskan skinner sights on my Remlin 45-70. I got the extra peep sight for 'daytime' use. I forget the size. But I like it, even with my shitty old eye's I can hit a 3" circle at 50 yards.

I put these on a 336 maybe 15 years ago now. Bought several sized rear apertures for different distances I like using large ghost ring size for up to 100m. Was an easy install but did need gunsmithing help with a bunged up front sight screw hole, it needed to be staked. Went with the winged versions to protect the sight aperture and blade from rough handling. Solid construction but some of the bluing, or oxidized coating flaked off early leaving some bare metal. Did not effect performance. Thinking back for what I do the buckhorn sight was probably fine.

Iron sights are not for all shooters for me all but one of my six rifles have irons. I like being able to send pew pew kisses where I want with out optics. Then there is always the SHTF scenario of being stuck with a broken scope on a sightless rifle. Have been shooting the 30 30 more since I started to reload that cartridge.
