Is the Gamo Whisper worth the money?

I'm not looking for a high end gun, just something That is not junk and will last, the two are not always one in the same. The rabbits are chewing through the not so invisible dog fence wire and they need thinning out. Six times in the last month, it must be the lack of snow cover. I got about five acres fenced in and about half of it is just laying on the ground where it goes through the woods and for some reason this year they are at it with a vengeance. Little Fucks!
I know some of you fellows are really up to speed with these things and will take any recommendations under strong advisement, thank you.

A friend of mine has a whisper and likes it. He shoots crows and squirrels around his garden. Seems to do the trick.

My daughter just got a Crossman 760 for Christmas and it brings me back forty years.

.177 is light for rabbits. Look at something at least .20 caliber. I have no experience with Gammo's so no advice there. Check Pyramid Air for a ton of reviews and videos. It a great resource and they have decent prices.

I have some 14g hunting pellets in .177 that would scramble rabbit brains pretty well.

Crosman just announced a reasonably priced semi-auto airgun at ShotShow, it could probably do some damage and give you follow up shots.

I hate to recommend Chinese products but for value, it is hard to beat the QB line that Steven Archer imports. At least he is in Fairport and used to work for Crosman (who "assembles in the USA").

Anyway bang for buck they are hard to beat and at least you aren't supporting Walmart/Dicks.

I love my airguns but yeah, the cheapest 22 rifle outperforms them for a fraction of the price and effort... just those f-ing laws!

I have a 22 Stalker Whisper that's great at 25 yd, ok at 50. I've not yet found the right pellet to go beyond that. But is damned near silent, and has some decent foot-pounds behind it.

The scope is a cute decoration (the mount will fail, you will discard all of it), so ignore it as a feature. The fiber iron sights are great and light up nicely.

If you put a real optic on it, be certain it clears the rear iron sight or you'll break it when cocking. I had to add a riser to mine for that purpose.

If you don't have a specific reason for getting a 177, also shop the 22 variants. The additional trauma of the larger pellet can be useful - it's basically the 45 vs 9mm argument, and the difference is significant. That said, the variety of 22 pellets sold locally tends to be less, so you end up having to find your proper pellets on-line. Pretty much any junk will work at 25yds. 50 yds requires some minor searching, and 100yds... I've failed at thus far.



If you've got cash, though, you'll want a 25cal FX Impact. Because Envy. :)
