Air Guns that are practical for self defense ?

Are there any Air Guns that are not glorified BB Guns, that do not require pumping ?

I'm thinking that buying a few thousand pellets may be easier than aquiring ammo these days.

The problem with them is having them on the ready pressurized. Keeping them presurized is not good for the seals. I have a co2 pistol that would put 8 .177 pellets into a face rather fast. Would it stop multiple assailants nope.

I was hoping for a heavier pellet than .177, and one that would penetrate multiple layers of clothing.

There are plenty of airguns that would be worth grabbing for self defense.

None will be as good as an AR obviously, but anything decent in 9mm or up caliber would be better than most non firearm alternatives.

I’d sooner draw a bow on an attacker, and a broad head leaves a terrifying wound. While there are some impressively powerful air rifles (Hatsan and friends for one), they’re pretty unwieldy and not speedy to put into play.

While there are airguns out there that can kill. I personally wouldn't rely on one for self defense. Hunting, absolutely. Most are slow to load and need to hold some sort of charge .
It could make someone think twice even a face full of copper bb's from a co2 gun won't be pleasant but an angry attacker may not stop.
If I didn't have a gun I would carry a fixed blade knife. People have been killing each other with sharpened pieces of metal for a long time.

I would consider 22LR over any airgun. Still available here and there if you look hard enough. Remington bucket of bullets is 1400 rounds and very compact. You could easily store 10,000 rounds in a small footlocker.

10,000 rounds of .22lr is 2x .50 cal ammo cans. It is very compact.

Many .22s will be better than almost all airguns. But there are some combinations where it goes the other way.
