Air rifles.... anyone have a pcp?

Took the boy out to shoot a pellet gun for the first time. He’s too young to do by himself but I’m teaching him gun safety early. I have a pretty cheap ruger airhawk. It was actually pretty accurate and fun. Thinking of upgrading to a .22 or .25 pcp. Any advice? I’m seeing sub one inch groups at 50 yards. Pretty impressive for an air rifle. We shot with irons (well plastics).

I have a .25 mrod and a .22 discovery. Hate pumping them but they are good shooters, the m rod is my squirrel gun. That said without a tank to fill the m rod it isn't a fun range gun, think it's around 60 pumps per 3 mags for my gun. The discovery is more hand pump friendly with it smaller reservoir and fill pressure.

I had the Airforce Condor, it came stock with a Lothar walther buttoned match grade barrel . It was insanely accurate . It will shoot 1 MOA at a hundred yards . No bullshit. It comes in a lot of calibers , 177, 20, 22, 25, 9mm, and up . Don't get anything smaller than .22 I had a silencer for it , you can buy them , they're legal . it sounded about as loud as a daisy bb gun , maybe, just a ""ting!!""no silencer is as loud as a .22. I remember shooting 3 squirrels at 50 yards , they never knew their buddy was dead, one after the other. It wasn't even fair , the power was great for small game. I blew a hole through a one inch think counter top . It will drop raccoons fox in the smaller calibers. . its pricey though.

First fill sucks but after that it isn't terrible but gets a little old. I use my pcps for hunting and bought a hw97k springer for targets and plinking at the range. Get a tank and it's a game changer. My local club is considering buying a compressor so when that happens I'm ordering a tank.

You could run a scuba set up and after it gets below your optimal operational psi u could cap it off with a hand pump

Paintball and airsoft ranges usually have a compressor that can fill them. Or you can call around and a firehouse might be able to hook you up. They also make mini compressors that hook to your car battery, still around $650 though.

I do enjoy springer as well though. Love my hw97k accuracy is great and it's good enough to hit cans at 70 yds, around 80 the .177 pellets start to drop fast though.

Try a Benjamin Prod. Sort of a mini-Marauder. Detachable mag, shoulder stock and shrouded barrel. These things are backyard quiet and they can be hot- rodded. Mine shot around 600fps, but I changed the Transfer port and put a stronger hammer spring in there and she went up in the 700fps realm. Small enough that it is easy to hand-pump.

Yep, PCPS are expensive up front. If your looking for a top notch springer , the TX is a great shooter, same barrel as the air force , deadly accurate out to 50 yards , groups are about dime size at 35 yards, you don't get the power or range of a PCP but it is accurate as any rifle you ever fired. probably better. You cant beat those LW barrels. Tack drivers.

my friends boy was 5 and i got the replica glock 19 bb pistol was under 60 bucks .. first time he seen it .. Chev look what i got and hand it to him ..
first thing he did was rack the slide and check .. lol .. it wasn't the blow back one . Sorry Chev its a bb gun .. Frown on his face now lol ..

Growing up, I had a springer and for just plinking, its cheap fun.

If you want a small game hunter as well as good learning tool, break barrel pellet rifles are good. Much cheaper and no air to mess with.

When I was a kid all I had was a daisy 10 pump bb/pellet gun. I think im going with a higher end springer in .22. I don’t feel like messing around with scuba tanks and compressors. A springier should be fine for my backyard range (50-75 yards). I might try a scope on my cheap ruger airhawk and see how it groups also. Thanks everyone!

My kids and I go to a local range and they have a kids program. They have PCP air riffles that are great riffles. Not cheap but the kids love them. Very shootable and accurate. Can’t beat it it’s $3.00 two Friday’s a month and the shoot for 2-2.5 hours. I always throw them a $20.00 for my two kids. One does pellet guns and the other does the .22. They provide everything if needed. Of course my son has his own gun.

There is always the shoebox compressor and fill your tanks at home. That was a option I was considering years ago.
