Airport Worker Nabbed for Stealing Guns Out of Checked Luggage

This is something that concerns me. Going forward, I will take a picture of the firearms declaration you have to fill out at the ticket counter that's signed by the agent so that I can have some proof to show the Pistol Permit Office along with the police report that it was indeed stolen.

I was under the impression there is a special check in and check out process for pistols. They are required to be in their own locked case, Is a TSA lock required? Thise can be opened with a key anyone can get.

How much harder is it to just steal the locked case than to steal the gun ?
Not sure what value the case really adds, unless they really think some baggage handler is going to steal the gun and go on a rampage on the spot.
The locked case must be locked by a non TSA lock. Only you should have the key/combination. I always run my cable around the handle framework inside the suitcase. You would have to pry open the case or break the frame of the suit case to get to the pistol that way. I expect the victims mentioned in the articles did not do this.
TSA approved locks only go on the outside of the luggage and can be opened by anyone that has a key. If I want to lock the zippers I just use a wire tie. They are easy enough to cut if the TSA wants to get inside. If someone wants to rummage through my dirty underwear more power to em!
Also the last time I looked the airline was not to put any identifiers on the luggage to indicate it included a weapon. So when Delta does this they are going against the TSA. But I have been wrong before
