Always the Quiet Ones - Benjamin Marauder 22 PCP air gun

My most recent built is a rabbit hole that ending up bigger than the original plan. Usually, around my birthday, I think about purchasing a new rifle. The lack of available ammo made adopting a new caliber problematic.

I was also looking for a more quiet option for small game. I considered CCI quiets or CBs. But, the accuracy of these loads was not making me love that option. I have a Gamo air rifle that is a springer. Shooting springers well required a technique that I don’t seem to possess.

I bought a Benjamin Marauder 22 PCP air rifle. A PCP air rifle can fired like a traditional 22.

Don’t have a formal review. I haven’t shot it enough to form an deep opinion. I also want to hunt with it before I make a final judgment. However, it is fun to shoot and the accuracy rivals my most accurate 22LR rifles at 25 yards.

I've been into airguns all my life as well as traditional firearms.

PCP is a godsend.

Personally, .22cal is just right in the airgun market for PCPs.

I've had a Benji Marauder since 2009 when it came out. Never any problems with it. At least 20k rounds through it. Got a ton of magazines because it fits other guns.

Now I've got plenty of PCPs, springers, CO2s, pumpers, as well as a high end air HPA compressor and some hand pumps. Of course plenty of ammo to feed them all.

I got a hand pump. But, it only took a couple of trips to the range to convince me I needed a compressor. I bought the cheapest Walmart pump I could find still capable of 3,000 psi. It’s not fast. But, it’ll service a single rifle.

Only time I use the hand pumps are when I'm out of the house. I used to do bottles, but I had all sorts of problems with them leaking or getting them hydroed... so I ditched them.

I run a Hill EC-3000 with a dryer pack system.

I recommend heading to the GTA forum. A good number of the members are from Upstate NY....

Yep, but not on the holster…. (I too would be interested in the suggestions)

my comment is there are 2 itty bitty set screws that hold the right side safety lever on. Drop a touch of locktite or nail polish in there to keep them from backing out, as Umarex does not have replacement screws, and it’s impossible to find a hex key that small. I think you can guess how I know…

Otherwise, this is an excellent replica (full takedown, etc.) and great fun to shoot.

I have the .25 , does the job. Though it hasn't seen a ton of use since I bought my hw97k and tuned it with a vortek kit. Gun is super accurate and I don't need to take my pump with me.

Yeah I've been an air gunner for ever. Amazing things have come in the last 20 years. My favorite is my old crossman 2240. Started it's life as a $40 pistol. Now it's got a rifle stock, 18" .25 barrel, custom steel valve, custom trigger, power adjuster, custom pcp air tube, custom shhh thingy, basically every part except the grip frame is custom. I'm getting great accuracy at around 850 fps with crossman domes. Knocks the crap out of tree rats and the whole woods doesn't go into hiding. My obsession started because I made some bad choices over the years and ended up living in town for a while. I ended up building a range in my basement to continue shooting regularly. It's just stuck with me and I'm glad I got a nice collection of them now.

See if you can find a slug it will like....I had some good luck with them in my 25cal Airforce .....

Ooh, yes, slugs/bullets. Whatever you want to call them. lol

I recommend reaching out to NSA (Nielsen Specialty Ammo). You can get sampler slug packs.

They even have .178 slugs.

I bought a couple packs of the fx slugs. Fit snug in my .25 mrod but shoot good. Still have to get the chronograph out and see what they are doing.

I've been shooting springers since about 1985 or 1986 IIRC. Somewhere in the back of a safe lies an Air Arms Bora. An English side cocker in .177 with an RWS 2.5x scope that loved Beeman and RWS hollowpoints. It took a lot of game for many years but when I got to Florida in the late 90's it got sidelined. It was fairly noisy. Returning to NY I discovered a Benjamin Nitro Piston in .22 that increased my range and was so much quieter that it was amazing. It took awhile to get back the "springer technique" but wow! I had seen the Marauder in .25 but have never been schooled on it. Love the concept now.
Oh yeah . . . I also have an HW45 pistol in .177 that needs some adjustments in the trigger (won't release). Someday I will figure that one out . . .
