Am I being impatient or is this ridiculous

I placed an order for a GCode Incog holster on Jan 14th. Apparently the color kydex I chose is a "limited edition" which I must have missed at the time of ordering, no big deal. Last Monday I sent an email as I had yet to hear anything from them regarding the order. The response email promptly and politely informed me that "limited edition" items take 4-6 weeks to process. To me that is forever. Maybe I'm spoiled by Amazon 2 day shipping but WTH! Going on 5 weeks now for a fairly simple and basic kydex holster. Anyone else have a similar experience with GCode? Am I being an impatient millennial snowflake?

Yes, your being inpatient, the stuff on Amazon does not get made when you order it, and sometimes they run out of stuff also, they just do not let you order it. I make custom stuff, everything to order, in medium to high volume(minimum 1000 to 100’s of thousands piece orders). The backlogs on orders run 5 to 6 weeks at my factory, and that is with 60 employees and about 20 million dollers invested in equipment.

Success brings its own problems, there are only so many hours in a week; 168 to be exact. We are efficient. We will run and stock items to deliver just in time for customers. Other items we run one time, some orders we repeat monthly. You would recognize my customers and there products if I could share that info. Companies understand leadtimes, and logistics and planning ahead. Some of my raw materials take 12 plus weeks to get.

If a holster mfg does not stock the one you ordered, and has to make it, there are probably others that ordered theirs first, and would not like you jumping the line. It may not even take a long time to make yours.

The worry would come if 6 weeks come and go with no shipping...then you pester them every couple of days. Lol

You're being impatient and you don't understand the manufacturing and supply chain. Don't feel bad, you're far from alone.

Believe it or not, there is cost associated with finished goods sitting on a shelf. Everyday that a finished good sits in storage the profit on that unit shrinks. It's also a day that the money invested to make it is not recouped. This is why clearance sales happen. Better to sell an item at or near a loss and free up space for new inventory that has more profit available than to keep spending money on storing the old stuff.

We've gotten pretty good at predicting consumer demand and delivering products when and at the rate that they're wanted. That's why when the predictions/delivery systems fail (hot Christmas toy, newest iPhone, new gaming consoles, etc.) everyone notices. It also seems glaring when we want an item that doesn't sell enough units to justify the cost and risk associated with prediction and pre-demand manufacturing - like your custom holster.

That being said, they should have notified you of the lead time before taking your order. Also, as soon as the six weeks is up, I'd be calling them. Whether they like it or not, Amazon and others have changed expectations. Hopefully they realize this and are extremely responsive.

Funny part is GCode is selling the same style holsters, just a different color, on Amazon, Prime eligible for 2 day shipping. If i didnt already have 5 weeks, and a complaint thread, invested in this I would cancel my website direct order and buy through Amazon. Color isnt a big deal for me and in hindsight I should have just picked a common color like Black.

That might explain a bit. Amazon is pretty strict about maintaining inventory levels and you risk being dropped if you can't keep up - at least that's how it was when we partnered with them a few years ago. I would guess that Amazon inventory has production precedence over custom direct orders. All hail king Bezos.
