Amendments Going Digital

Not sure if this is the place for this topic,(mods please correct if not) anyways-
Was checking on an amendment yesterday,(Rensselaer County), was asking if they were doing them in person yet or still just by mail because of the plandemic. He told me they are not going back to in person amendments again , only by mail for the foreseeable future. He then tells me that they will eventually be going digitally as they’ve been working on getting the system up and running? He couldn’t go into too much detail as he didn’t know but did mention it would expedite the process? Now Rensselaer county is relatively fast at processing these, (a week if by mail, 1-3 days when they were doing them in person), but this may make it quicker and easier, I think. Anyhow, has anyone else heard about this anywhere else in the Republic of NY? Could it be something that’s instantaneous at the time of purchase? Or could it be that you’ll be able to do it by email? Or are they in a rush to change the law to make the pending Supreme Court case moot,…..again? Hmmmm, I wonder

What would make the case moot is doing away with the whole permitting scheme. But, we know that's not going to happen unless they can institute something more burdensome. I can see them saying, fine, you want "shall issue"? You get "shall issue" for possession only. No carry outside the home - EVER.

But to your topic - being able to just digitally send them the info and have it added instantly would be a plus. Why does a judge have to approve every purchase? The permit was already granted. Any changes to it should be purely administrative.

I agree wholeheartedly that the entire process is blatantly overburdening. Nothing says communism like asking for permission to take possession of your possessions!!
But that is what I’m wondering, are they making it less burdensome for us/them by doing this digitally? If I had to strictly speculate, and that is exactly what I’m doing, I would guess that you’ll be able to do it by email, and that is it. I hope I’m wrong, but this is NY after all. Holy shit Batman , could you imaging how many dead bodies would be accumulating in the streets if you could purchase and bring home a handgun at the same time! Oh the humanity

Erie county does mail in which takes about a week or in person which takes all of 5 maybe 10 minutes tops. Just bought a pistol at the gun show last weekend and they were on sight doing additions/removals. Because of the volume of people it took a whopping 30 minutes to add my new pistol.

Dont know if things changed down here in Westchester county, as I haven't added a pistol in a few years, but my last pistol took me 50 days to be able to go pick it up, and I'm as clean as a preachers sheets. I'm no lawyer, but Id call that a clear cut infringement. Any westchester people here, whats the latest wait time?

Most of Orange County was averaging about 4 weeks I believe. I dropped my last one off in person on 12/20 so hopefully will be soon.

what I really hate about it I live just into my county and the govt offices are clear at the other end...then my LGS is at the end of yet another county!!!!
I drive all over to get my admendments!!!!!
I mailed my last one in cuz of the vid!!

Live just into ontario near Honeoye falls lima to to cndga for cty office and back to HILTON in mnroe near where I work!!!
it used to be a couple day process by the time I get it all done.......

When we were doing it in person sometimes the PP clerk would just say “, hold on a minute” when I handed him my paperwork, he would then go for a walk and then bring back my signed amendment and new pistol permit if the judge wasn’t in a trial. ( I have a very pro 2 amendment judge , thank god). Now with the mail in thing going on it’s a 5 day minimum . Just having to go to the “permit office” is an infringement, having to wait 5 days is criminal

I had the least pro 2A judge in Rensselaer County. My first two amendments took 3 weeks. Then, they sped up. I guess when I had gotten my permit Charlie had just become the new pp clerk and they were doing things more cautiously (at least my judge was). My judge wouldn't let other judges sign off on amendments initially, but lightened up started allowing it, which sped it up to a couple days. The whole thing is complete bullshit.

I agree, luckily I have Morgan who’s as close to being a true patriot as they come. I met him personally at the range a while back. Very good man , down to earth and loves his guns

I had McNally Jr.. A guy I worked with got Zwack, who gives out unrestricted right off the bat, lol.
I always hated playing the "will the pp clerk be in today" game. I would have to take time off of work to drop off or pick up amendments and there were numerous times he wasn't there. very frustrating.

Yep, that happened to me a few times and it pissed me off so much because you can’t even call ahead and ask if he’s there?!? It would be a crap shoot. Let’s just say that it has greatly influenced a lot of my decisions to buy something when at the LGS. So yes, they won. I’m usually someone who speaks my mind but I’ve had to bite my tongue multiple times when finally dropping off my amendments those times. Charles is a great guy but Jesus, all you have to do is leave a message on the answering service saying you’re in or not. It’s that simple

Just hit day 29 from the day I mailed mine in Orange County. It's ridiculous that in a "pro-2a" county with a pro-2a judge having issued my license and signing my amendments I can't walk in, get an amendment signed on the spot and walk out with a temporary addition to my license that keeps me legal until the updated one shows up.
