Ammo Prices Rising

I just checked an online ammo supplier (which obviously cannot ship to NY) and prices are going up. 9mm up $.02/round over night and shipping which was normally same day is now 5-7 days. The hording is in full swing for those that don't know or are not prepared.

I was just going to start a new thread for this but I think it fits here:

I want to make a fairy large order for .223/5.56 ammo, probably 1000 rounds.
Is FMJ brass cased acceptable for stockpile/SHTF? This appeals to me because I can also use it at the range for the price. The other option I am looking at is Speer Gold Dot soft points, but they are at a much higher cost, and I wouldn't use them at the range. I am looking at 55 grain weight because I have a 1/9 twist barrel.
Final question, I have always shot 5.56 in my rifle, but that seems to be in short supply where I order ammo. Is there any disadvantage to getting .223? I don't want to be stuck with a bunch if it isn't as good as 5.56 even though I know it will function in my rifle.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with stocking up on FMJ. It's makes up more than half of my stock but I do have some softpoints and jacketed hollow points as well. I also try to stock more brass than steel cased depending on the firearm/requirements.
And I'd say 55 or 62 grain is fine for a 1/9 twist. Have you compared both in your barrel? If you know 55 is more accurate in your tube I'd stock more of that.
And there's nothing wrong with .223 over 5.56. A 5.56 case has a higher max pressure. Again, which is more accurate in your tube and reliable in your chamber would dictate to me which to pursue in quantity.
I've seen a 5.56 chambered rifle fail to reliably feed 5.56 but .223 ran perfect. With that rifle, we couldn't get past that to test accuracy with the various 5.56 rounds on hand.

Agreed. I have quite a bit of it and I'm comfortable with it on all fronts given OP's inquiry.

I was watching the site and a 1000 round pack of Target Sports Lake City XM193 5.56 FMJ became available. For whatever reason I prefer 5.56 over .223. It said they only had 20 in stock and it was out of stock earlier, so I jumped on it. It is the same plant as Federal or one of the other big guys is made in. From what I know it is the same thing with a slightly different item number. Picked up a few other things too.
