Exactly, So true. I was looking through my stuff and 1 box of ammo was already from 2015 that I had dated, its been there for 6 years already.... It seemed like just yesterday. Time to make some room.
Two days ago the entire second shelf was full of 556! I was able to pick 200 rounds. Took two trips on consecutive days.

Yeah, I talked to Kevin in the Gun Library. he told me they got a big shipment in and it was gone by the end of the day. So, I asked him what day the shipments are coming in. He said, no way of knowing. Totally hit and miss. By the way, the used guns in the gun library were slim pickings. This is like watching a zombie movie when the survivors would go into a sporting goods store to get guns and they had already been looted. I mean we are watching a zombie apocalypse in Slooooowwww Moootttiooon. We just don't know it yet.

People are really taking advantage of the situation. There is tons of steel cased 556/223 available online and going for 70 cents per round. Still can get x39 for 40-45 cents though.

You’re reasoning in the second paragraph is why I need 5,000-10,000 rounds. I can also sell some and make good money right now. I dont plan on it since I don’t think prices will drop anytime soon. Only thing I regret is not buying the 3,000-4,000 rounds I planned on when it was cheap. It was cheap for so long I took that for granted.

Im buying whatever I can now so I can pass it on to my kids when I’m gone. I only use extra side cash for guns and ammo. I’m not opening up credit cards and racking up debt.

Maybe maybe not. At the moment I feel I have enough ammo and components to weather a very long storm. Not selling primers is more about not stooping to that level more than anything.

We are being abused, and badly taken advantage of... These prices you guys are mentioning are gouging- NOT ""supply and demand"" driven...
Here's how I know... I just bought 2 boxes of Aguila Super Extra .22 LR- one box solid point, one box hollow point, for $3.50 a box, or $.07 a round... Bought 2 20 rd boxes of Liberty Defensive non lead hollow point one box each of .380 and 9mm- [the 9mm was +P]... About $27-28 a box.. Asked the salesman what plain old 9mm target ammo was costing and he said about $15 a box.. They just can't keep it on the shelves after it comes in.
We got there at 9:45.. The store opened at 9 am, and had a new load of ammo delivered.. All the common calibers/target ammo were GONE already except for . Aguila .22 and the Liberty SD ammo... NO plain old brass case available.. all gone within 45 minutes...
Its gone within an hour of the trucks unloading it into the store whenever it comes in .. Guys are snapping it up, and running and selling it for $ for $2 or $3 a ROUND!... This was at a plain old Sportmans Warehouse big box location.. They said they were getting more ammo in than they did BEFORE the shortage, but its gone as soon as it comes in unless its oddball stuff.. common target ammo is like gold, and goes instantly.. They are now limiting all ammo to 2 boxes TOTAL.. No more 2 boxes of individual calibers... I had my wife with me so we got 4 boxes..
I didn't want the Liberty SD ammo, as we have hundreds of round of good SD carry ammo and never shoot it, saving it for our carry guns in 9mm and .380, but my wife was adament... Even .25 acp and .32 acp are non existant these days, and really how many people are still using those calibers??
I know a young guy selling ammo online through his mothers long established auction house.. They are doing online auctions, and he's cleaning up, as he knows when the trucks come in and where, he grabs what he can- packages it in small lots, and is making a lot of money online.
Last week, my local gun shop had 9 mm stashed behind the counter at $30 a box,, Remington or something..
Not a great price, but its a local store and he has always been expensive.. Point is, this ammo is new, has been recently made at manufacturers, shipped to and sold at local stores, and although the prices are high, they aren't insane, and the retailers are making money on it... We are being raked over the coals, and begging for more..
Glad I got what I needed after the last ""ammo shortage"".. I am not too bright, but could see that it was not going to be the last time that ammo would be unavailable... Wait till Biden outlaws importation of ammo produced overseas.. Thats next...

My brother in Florida stopped at a store yesterday. Just a mom and pop place out in the sticks. 444 Marlin, 32 special, 7x57. That's all they had, and not much of that.

You can only price gouge if you have at least a local monopoly.
Anything else *is* supply and demand.
You're choices are high prices or price fixing and empty shelves.
When demand exceeds supply there is no "low prices and full shelves" option. You can't legislate more product into existence.

Whats happening is the stores use to be able to order lets say 10k rounds of 556. Now distributors are saying we can only get you 5k rounds. So the prices go up to make up for the losses of not getting the reg order amount. Its all to keep them afloat bc once there sold out they dont know how much there getting the next shipment or even when its coming. Also distributors are telling them yeah we can get you 9mm an 556 but you have to buy 6 cases of 50cal tracer rounds and 500 holsters. Thats why you are seeing some odd ball calibers on the shelf. The distributors are literally cleaning there warehouses out of stuff they been sitting on for years an pawning it off to the dealers. Sooo many gun store sites are now selling rare african big game rounds now its a bizarre time. This also explains why the big name stores like cabalas can get ammo at decent price bc they have the capital to buy the other non sense the distributor is throwing in with the order.

I think it's just that some stores will charge what the market will bear. In normal times, if I asked $100/1000 for primers, no one would buy them. Now some people are paying $300/1000 or more. Will I? No. But if someone offered me that much, how many do you want?

SW has a shit ton more to offer to turn a profit then a small local gun shop. If there getting more bulk ammo then before its prob bc they sell a ton of other stuff for that distributor. Most local shops just mainly sell guns an ammo. Thats how they pay the bills. No camping equipment, 4x4s, cloths, boots etc.

I do not believe they are getting more ammo in than before. They are lying to you so you’re not pissed at them. Also keep in mind they can lose money or not make as much in ammo as other stores because the increased traffic of people looking for ammo gets them other sales. They profit off of foot traffic and changing prices costs them money. I’m sure some places like outdoor limited and ammo supply warehouse are price gouging but that’s why they have ammo on their websites nearly constantly.
Over the last month ive bought several boxes of ammo at Runnings.
I bought 2 boxes of Federal American Eagle 9mm 115 grain FMJ box of 50 for $13.99 each....not too bad.
I bought 2 boxes of Fiocchi 9mm 115 grain FMJ box of 50 for $14.99 each.....not bad.
And I bought 2 boxes of Federal 38 grain 22LR LHP box of 800 for $44.00 each.
They get shipments weekly but you need to check often or know someone.

If you can buy them for $3 at one store, why do you care if another store wants $10 ?
OR are you pissed that one store has an empty shelf with a $3 price tag, and the other store has a full shelf with $10 ?
If the $10 store had the $3 price, they would also have empty shelves in that environment. That's a law of economics as immutable as gravity.
Complaining about price gouging during a shortage is like complaining about gravity because you fell down the stairs.

Scored 4 x50 rds of 9mm Federal today at SW... $15.99 a box.. They have been VERY fair with prices through this, but can't keep ammo on the shelf for more than an hour.. Long lines at 9:15 am on a Tuesday.. I am retired, as is my wife, but the store was FULL of young people.. Pulled into the big parking lot, and it was PACKED with pickup trucks, and groups of young people only 15 minutes after the store opened. Don't they work??
. The store had an "observer" watching everyone that bought ammo, looking right over their shoulders...Thats what its come to.. He was pleasant enough however..
Told me .380 is pretty much unavailable. None on the shelf at all, even with the new shipment..
They still had Aguila Super Extra .22LR at $3.49 a box of 50.. Not bad..
We saw boxes of 100 Winchester White Box 9mm for about $39, and was about to grab 4 of those instead of the slightly cheaper Federal, but was quickly informed that we could only buy ONE box of 100 each[ my wife and I were there].
So now they are actually counting rounds, and you are limited to 100 round ... No problem, we bought the slightly cheaper Federal 50's..
Also, when I complimented the "observer" on his store's policy of keeping prices reasonable, I was informed that it was coming to a quick end... Sportmans Warehouse has been bought out by Bass Pro, and will be adapting the BP price structure very soon.. Sad to see, but thats life in 2021...

9mm is 71 cents a round in Fayetteville, NC. It is available it you pay for it.

If you catch ammo at a big box store, it's usually about the price it was a year or two ago. I just got 30-30 Winchester brass cased for $17/box. That's only about a dollar more than it was.
