Do lock up your ammo?

I keep mine in a lateral file cabinet that I installed hasp locks.
I need a bigger cabinet and was just wondering if I should figure out a way to lock it up

EDIT: change in plans. 4’ wide shelf no matter what it’s rated for would or break under the weight of ammo.
Im going with multiple HD 4 drawer file cabinets. They are cheap and plentiful. I can add more as needed

I ran across a set of school, hall lockers, two wide and two high that I keep my ammo in. I could lock them if I wanted to. Tactical reserve is stored in magazines at an undisclosed location.

If you decide to use file cabinets, instead of the internal push cylinder locks which can be easily defeated, add an external vertical lock bar and padlock that is bit tougher. They will still get it if they want to, but it is a lot of weight to carry away.

I have seperately locked cubbys and an ammo safe in my safe (room) locked seperately from the firearms.....they usually behave but if one firearm was to get out of line the ammo is still locked up in case...so he cant get to it.

You will need to beef up the shelves, once that's done you may find out the sides have trouble supporting that much weight and move a lot of it out to the garage when you see the dining room ceiling developing cracks in it. But you might be luckier than I am.

be sure to shore up the floor underneath that bad boy as it get full of AMMO...that $hit can get heavy!!!!!!!!!!!!

my BIL large Safes..one filled with ammo...one of those BIG safes has warped the floor and Joists underneath it......!!!!!
has it (one) filled to the brimm with ammo!!

I buy about a dozen .50cal ammo cans any time they go on sale at Rural King, then fill them up and throw in a few desiccant packs.

Tucked away in places not seen, along with my hand guns. Concerned about prying eyes or a break in when I'm not at home, I hide stuff instead of using a safe. Sometimes my hides are quite creative

Fawk no! It’s hard enough in this state for guns and ammo to even exist. Why would I want to punish my ammo with a prison? Be like me, set it free!

You’re a lucky man. At least you had a boat. I was dumb enough to try to swim it across on my back. It was going fine til that gale blew up, followed by a squall and a cyclone! Lost it all, I did. Barely escaped with my life and a pair of wet socks!
