Ammunition Sales Soar in Response to Coronavirus Panic
HARVEY, La., March 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) hits the US, it's not just hand sanitizer and flu medications that are flying off the shelves. While Walmart and Target are running out of emergency essentials and "currently unavailable" is popping up on various Amazon searches, the rush to be prepared has also reached the ammunition industry.
Recent analysis shows that online ammunition retailer, Ammo.com, has seen a significant increase in conversions and sales since February 23, 2020. The company reports that this surge corresponds with the public concern regarding the COVID-19 virus. According to Google Trends, starting on February 23, American interest over time (the site's measurement matrix) of the term "coronavirus" has quadrupled, increasing from 22 to 100.


When compared to the 11 days before February 23 (February 12 to 22), in the 11 days after (February 23 to March 4), Ammo.com's number of transactions increased 68% and the company has seen a conversation rate increase of 45%.

So, if your family members get sick, you need extra ammo to shoot them with? No, wait, the corona virus is going to turn victims into zombies, and we need ammo to shoot them with? Or, let’s see, the virus is going to kill almost everyone, all services will be impaired. We will all be slowly starving to death, so we need more ammo in order to hunt rabbits and pillage Walmart super stores in order to survive?

Yes, I’m being cynical, but, people strike me as being really silly sometimes. I agree with Blimey, you should already have some ammo in reserve, which reminds me...I have to buy some ammo this weekend. (No, I don‘t need it...but, I want it.)

It's not just ammunition. It's a lot of the mainstream prepper stuff.

I'm getting ready for a camping trip in the Adirondacks next month. Went to Sportsman's Warehouse to see what they had on the shelves for Mountain House meals. They were sold out. Walmart. Sold out. Runnings. Sold out. The Epicenter. Sold out. Mountain House themselves. Sold out.

I did catch that. All the more reason to load up on ammo I guess. There is a gun show here today. I’m undecided. Do I go and buy ammo and risk getting “the Covid” or do I stay home, sitting on my current heap, and hope I stay healthy? Hmmm...tough choice.

No surprise.
I guess it makes me want some larger caliber riffle rounds. I’m fine for now for sure but it never hurts to buy another thousand .223 or a few more 6.8
