I believe your comparison of the situation in Mn. and what our founding fathers faced to be like comparing apples and oranges. Therefore your point is moot to me.
Peaceful protest is one thing, preventing ICE officers from doing their job is quite another. I fully support getting the illegal immigrants out of this country, all of them, ASAP

Why would a Rioter ... um ... mostly Peaceful Protester bring a firearm to the event.
Obviously to kill an Officer.
He violently resists arrest, brandishes a loaded handgun, gets shot.
I don't give a crap why he was arrested. That's a different issue. Many of these sociopaths wear an arrest as a badge of honor.
And so many are out after the arrest after no more than a Coffee Break.
The only thing that might surprise me, is if this individual is an actual biological male.

Not quite sure he was disarmed. Certain videos appear to be a cylindrical object being moved.
Also, reaction time is way different on scene versus watching a video. May have appeared he was removing and shots fired in a second, vs watching slowly.
Let the FBI take the videos apart and then see, until then it's really speculation with unknown variables...
FWIW: I have watched three separate videos multiple times and will not speculate either way...one shows the protester semi-standing with an presumably empty left hand, but we cannot see the right hand as it's behind and out of view. the big guy with black pants and a gray coat appears to take what one could assume to be a handgun and slips away...was he one of the BP guys or a bystander...the "recovered handgun" shown in pictures isn't a cheap pistol and fitted with a Red Dot optic, I'm putting the cost of that rig at over $1K.
Another announce commented that he was an illegal and would therefor be a prohibited person from having a handgun.
We're not in Court, we haven't learned all the facts, let's not sit in judgement until so.

Even at the time you posted this, he has been positively identified as an American VA ICU nurse, 37 year old Alex Pretti. He had a valid permit to carry a gun, as confirmed by law enforcement in MN. He also had no criminal record.
Not arguing it, just writing down what has been reported from one "news" source...see how easy it is for misinformation to sway the narrative from the truth.
I remember someone once asked massad ayoob what gun he would choose if he knew he was going somewhere that he could expect a gunfight. He answered (correctly IMO) that if he knew there was going to be a gunfight - he wouldn't go!
I don't care if the guy has a legal permit or not. Bringing a gun to this situation was foolish and stupid. After weeks of putting up with people screaming at them, throwing things at them and trying to run them over, do you think the guys from ICE are going to be calm, cool and collected? HELL NO!! They are going to be tense and quick to the draw. Every ICE agent there is no doubt wondering when someone in the crowd will just start opening fire. The politicians in MN and the press are doing everything they can to incite this while asking Trump to turn down the temperature.

Back up north, I used to go to a bunch of anti_trump rallies in Buffalo. No, not as a supporter of the protests, but as an observer and an agitator to those people.
I would do all that I could to get them riled up.
I never went to those events unarmed. Always at least one gun and extra mags.

I'm not here to say if this was right or wrong, I haven't looked into it to have an honest opinion.
But, Lets discuss this....
Clearly these protests are not slowing down and now with this latest shooting it will be further inflamed and likely lead to more agitators and they will feel even more righteous and emboldened in their actions because they will perceive their fears as being founded and their actions justified.
What happens next? Does this grow and become more violent? Does the national guard come in?

I don't have all the facts, I admit, but from one account it sounds like the police disarmed him, the disarming officer accidentally/negligently discharged the individuals pistol in the process and that singular gunshot caused the surrounding officers to wrongfully believe the individual was the one shooting so he was then shot multiple times. Again, these are not facts but 1 report that may or may not be accurate.
Just curious if we would all be viewing this shooting the same if if was a right wing rally of some sorts against a liberal law enforcement group and a conservative who was legally carrying a pistol was killed in the same manner
It seems at most the individual will become a useful idiot pawn for the lefts cause. Cliff notes, he's doing asshole things, legally carrying just like many of us here do while exercising his 2nd amendment rights, events quickly escalate and he ends up dead.
Just trying to be impartial and consistent that until all facts are known we might have a very different reaction if "one of us" was this guy in the same situation doing the same thing at a liberal organization. Just trying to be consistent.
And that's the problem, the left is going to double down and use this as an example of why their actions are now justified and their fears are valid. They will riot more now. At some point the federal gov is either going to have to decide to back down and leave MSP and let the rioters become emboldened, or, double down and really escalate their enforcement and round up all the ringleaders and agitators including local politicians and charge them with no bullshit serious charges like conspiracy, etc. this has potential to really get interesting.
