The SAFE Act was written and pushed through in the middle of the night. There was no opposition to oppose it. None! We all went to bed one night and when we woke up the next morning, there it was.

See above on the SAFE Act. CCIA was the same but in broad daylight. But, neither were done using proper channels. You are correct. I remember they used the message of necessity in a nefarious way (there was no emergency and no need for an immediate vote) and then they voted on the NY UNSAFE Act in the middle off the night. Those bastards.

There hasn't been any significant movement toward pro-2A actions yet. Nothing but lip service and a few extremely minor changes.

And back in 2017 Trump put Don Jr in charge of a 2a task force. Literally more anti gun laws were created.
If needed I can put together a montage of all the times Trump said he was making a task force and protecting the 2a.
Sinse then.....expanded Red Flag laws, bump stock ban, CCIA, multiple circuit Court losses, no national reciprocity....
These are all things he could have championed for 4.5 years he has been president. This new task force will not affect states. He says he will "fix" and enforce current national gun laws using the ATF, FBI and the DOJ. Ive not heard a single word about holding state officials accountable for rights violations. Helping felons get their rights back is great, but doesn't affect the vast majority of law abiding citizens. In just the past couple months Trump has pretty much forced the SCOTUS to rule on his immigration laws.
I'm as much a fan of Trump as anyone. I voted for him 3 times and I'll vote again if he is the next chosen VP.
But, you have to admit he has talked a lot about rabid 2a protection, but so far......Mel gets his guns.

I'm still trying to figure out how they could justify (other than hiding their actions) a message of necessity when the laws didn't go into effect until 90 days after it passed, and 1 year after it passed. If I remember correctly, NOTHING went into effect right away. That's clearly an abuse of the 'message of necessity'.

In the case of Cuomo's NY UNSAFE Act. I think the message of necessity was used in part to avoid public input/scrutiny.
They rammed the bill through as fast as possible in the middle of the night. IIRC the legislators only had something like 20 minutes to read the bill before the vote took place.

Cuomo bought off Assemblyman Mark Grisanti (a worthless and dishonest RINO) who changed his vote so the Safe Act passed, - after MG assured numerous constituents (myself included) that he would vote against it. Many of us got together and voted his ass out after that. And what did Cuomo do after that? Why he appointed Mark Grisanti a NY Supreme Court judge, of course!
