Any 22’s Better than the Taurus TX22

Looking at getting this on Saturday at the local gun show in FL

I have other 9’s/45’s……….so just for some cheap range/target fun

Most reviews seem to be really good

Any others worth considering in the $280/$300 price range?

I've read some earlier productions had some light strike fail to fire problems but mine has not encountered it. I'm very satisfied so far.

Also, never hear anything bad about the Taurus tx22 it seems widely regarded as a good choice.

I've got one and love it. If you decide to get a TX22, would recommend the TX22 competition instead of the ordinary TX22. Much better barrel. Very accurate.

I have an old Ruger MK1 that I will never part with. I also have a few other non-notable .22's but there is an exception, an older H&R 939 9 shot revolver that was modified sometime with a small push button cylinder release that's thru the hammer! That means you can hold , fire and open the cyl. all with one hand. I got it cheap (like $75, long ago) for a canoe gun and fell in love with it. I think someone long ago used it for some competition an did that mod along with polishing and jeweling the hammer.
Ph almost forgot, it also has a built in key/lock to lock the action like if I went swimming and had to leave it in the canoe or tent, pretty cool.

There is almost NOTHING that’s more fun than shooting .22short out of a .22 revolver. Except maybe also shooting .22LR out of the same cylinder, then swapping cylinders to fire .22WMR from the same gun. I present, for your consideration, the Ruger Super Wrangler. $280 at most honest gun dealers.

There are a lot of good 22LR pistols on the market.. brands like Ruger, S&W, Walter, Browning, etc. However, they are going to a bit more than "your price range of $280-$300."

Honestly, I would rather buy something used or spend a little more and get a better gun than the Taurus. But that's just me.

Reason I looked at the Taurus was the majority or good reviews

The Sig worried me due to all the reports of jamming and misfires etc………that may be early production models though

But appreciate all the other recommendations - will have a look at them as well

I'm sure the Taurus would do just fine and the 16+1 capacity is attractive. If it did happen to malfunction, just fix it. Most issues people run into with guns can be fixed by a moderately mechanically abled person.

I don't think it would be unusual to find any of those used for $300 or so. If it's got to be new, options are very limited.

Check out the Walther P22. Usually retails for around $250. Do not get the CA (California) model unless you live in NY. The CA model does not have the captured recoil spring. If you opt for the CA model you would want to buy a captured recoil spring from Tandemkross. Otherwise it's a pain to reassemble the gun with the original recoil spring.

I had a Ruger SR22. OK gun, but I did not like the safety design, so I sold it. Bought an S&W M&P 22. Sold it because it felt like a lightweight toy, and I did not like it. Bought an S&W stainless Model 617, 10 round version revolver. Love it, and will never part with it. Also bought a SPEED BEEZ loader and a multiple reload block setup (10 loads of 10 rounds) for it to use at the range.

Also, being down here in Free America where suppressors are legal, I bought a Ruger 22-45 Lite Mark IV target pistol with a threaded barrel, and added a Dead Air suppressor (next suppressor will be a Banish model that fits multiple calibers). Still don't like the Ruger safety, but the one button takedown is great!

Both the 617 and 22-45 run flawlessly.

YMMV.

Choice depends a lot on what you want or expect from a .22. You mention "target fun". I like .22 target fun too, especially when the bullet goes where you point the gun. I have a couple very good .22 cal target pistols. My favorite is the least expensive of them, my Ruger Government Target Mk ll. The best thing is, I know if I don't hit what I'm aiming for, it's not a gun problem And it runs flawlessly, never had any issues with it. I'd spend a few more $$ to get a dependable, decent target gun. Butt that's just me (o:

So old school brain tells me Taurus $ can be better spent elsewhere! I didn't lay any claims otherwise, not sure why you decided to throw SIG under the bus. But on that note, I have a .22 conversion kit for my SIG P229 that runs flawlessly, never an issue and is purely for fun. Agree on Glock Anything! Lol

Anyone bashing the TX22 cuz it’s a Taurus doesn’t own one. I have two of them and neither one has hiccuped. Not once. With shit ammo even. The G44 is ok but it misfires once it gets dirty. Same for the P22, SR22, and Sig 322. Only ones I have that are close to as reliable as the Taurus is the Walther PPQ 22, and the Browning Buckmark. The PPQ needed some break in to become reliable. The Browning has been good right out of the box but it’s a lot more money.

The 1911’s are over twice my budget……..and I have a full size 1911, but in a 45

I am still leaning towards the Taurus based on all the reviews and the price

The Sig still worries me and have read a few bad reviews on the Walther

The Rutgers - need to look into them
