Any hope for CCW insurance in NY?

I have tried joining a few memberships for ccw insurance/legal defense fund. Ccwsafe, USCCA, and US Shield. They all refused membership claiming they are unable to provide a service in NY even though they are not insurers. I know Albany fleeced the NRA for 10 million and now everyone is scared. The only one I haven’t tried is Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. It’s cheap but seems coverage is minimal.

At this point I’m really pissed. Ive passed all the stupid requirements to obtain a ccw permit and have proven to be a responsibly person. Now I can’t even protect myself legally if I have a self defense scenario. Me and my family can be financially ruined by the state and I have no legal recourse. It sucks that we live in this state where criminals are running loose on bail reform and we can’t even have self defense insurance! I wonder if anyone else knows of another self defense legal protection service... or if there is any hope coming down the pike?

I think the Armed Citizen Legal Defense Network offers coverage in NY. I believe since they are a self funded membership organization, they don't count as insurance.

Try umbrella insurance protection. It is available from a number of companies.

I had USCCA at one point, that was a few years ago. it cost me $27 per month for full coverage? I was going to call them next week. But if they are not going to accept a NY address, I can always change to a few other addresses as necessary

Not sure umbrella covers legal expenses. That’s what most of these memberships cover.

I saw that. 25k for bail and 25k for lawyer. Not really a great plan.

I use armed citizens because I wan't something. The USCCA ahd to drop me but still sends me the magazine.

I assume the first thing they'd do is confirm where you live and if you used a different address to get the insurance to work they'd just deny the claim.

Only three state in the whole damn union they won’t cover and NY is one of them. I’m so fed up with NY. I’m wondering if something will ever be worked out, or that’s the end of ccw legal protection. If so it’s better to take a bullet than have to face millions in legal fees

I called USCCA this morning. They indeed, can not operate in NY, NJ or Washington State. They are working on it with the state regulatory dept. but they said there are MANY, MANY hoops to jump through. I had USCCA up to about 2010, Butt NObama's economic policies put an end to that because of the housing crisis. Anyone that had USCCA where cancelled and money refunded.

I can't wait til the state demands all firearm owner get "insurance". I wonder how that will pay out, I suspect it will be STATE sponsored insurance and it will be ridiculously expensive

I called Armed Citizen Legal Defense Network today and had a good talk with them. They are located in Washington and up again the same crap we are. I became a member. They offer as help as needed for defense attorneys and legal expenses as long as it’s a legit self defense case. I’m glad at least we have them as a last option

I listened to a conference call a while back about Armed Citizens Defense. It seems to be the only viable option here in the People’s Republic or New Yorkistan. However I was not convinced to dive in as they are a bit undefined on what they consider illegal vs legal defensive use. In other words if you’re breaking the law when the self defense event happens you’re not covered. Makes perfect sense if you’re mugging someone, stealing property, etc ( all the obvious stuff).

They weren’t so clear if illegal includes gray area things like carrying outside of admin restrictions (eg carrying on a Westchester restricted permit). It seemed that there was ample ability for them to deny coverage. It may well be my misperception so take it with a grain of salt and do your research.

I just renewed my CCW safe today as a matter of fact.

I have an email from the director earlier, or I should say late last year, that they are fine to do business in New York as they are a legal service and not an insurance company

I called uscca today and they told me that they have been threatened with major fines if they sell memberships to New Yorkers. Albany’s explanation is that USCCA is paying and supporting people to kill other people. I know it’s stupid. The rep I spoke with said their lawyers are working on a solution and may take this to court.

I signed up as well. I spoke with a rep and they seemed like the real deal. Small organization though. Only 2 million in their defense fund. They cover legal costs, nothing more. Not as much coverage as CCW Safe but Better than nothing.
