Just recently joined GSSF and I have some questions about competing in regards to what happens and what type of shooting happens. Curious if anyone here is a member.
The biggest question I have is what type of target and shooting is done at a match? I can find plenty of info regarding safety protocol for new competitors but not so much on the actual type of targets/shooting. All I have ever done for pistol is indoor ranges where you have one paper target at 5-25 yards and try to shoot a tight group in the bullseye with no rapid fire allowed.I've shot quite a few of their matches. Low stress, lots of fun, decent payouts.
That definitely answers my questions. So standing static with multiple targets set up and one has to hit each one as fast as they accurately can. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be moving targets or something like a texas star. Gives me a general idea of what type to practice for.Maybe these can help
I’m heavily debating about this year. I’m wondering if I should practice more with my G19 or start practicing with my G44. I’d like to become reasonable with either one before I show up to a match. But maybe I’ll just say screw it and go for it anyways. So who is planning on shooting GSSF this year(don't mean to hijack thread)? I signed up GSSF this year as well. Just wondering what kind of turn out there will be.
Go for it and have fun. If you go practice and burn through ammo you will end up spending more money then what you would make if you won.I’m heavily debating about this year. Well it’s more so I don’t embarrass myself by doing poorly with a gun I haven’t shot much lol. Really want to get comfortable with where the sights are at and whatnot. I usually like to get in the 2k range for thstGo for it and have fun. If you go practice and burn through ammo you will end up spending more money then what you would make if you won.
I used to fish bass tournaments and would win but I still lost money.
Just shoot the match. You won't be the worst one there. As a new shooter, nobody is going to bust your balls.Well it’s more so I don’t embarrass myself by doing poorly with a gun I haven’t shot much lol. In the book I got with my GSSF membership the only match they listed in NYS this year was down near Binghamton way. I had heard there was one in Rochester but it wasn’t listed in the bookI am planning on attending both matches in the area this year. I shoot a lot but have never done any actual competition’s. It’s time. Even if I do suck, screw it. I love shooting and I want to have fun doing it.

Yeah that’s one I was talking about down near Binghamton. I was surprised they don’t hold any near Buffalo or RochesterPine city sportsmans club

Weird that it’s online but not in the book of matches.Match at Ontario Gun Club is on their website
I would say guns, ammo, ppe and belt mounted mag carriers. Nothing crazy.
Are the belt mounted mag carriers even really all that needed??
If I'm not mistaken GSSF is more like steel challenge (minuse the need for a holster) and you just shoot what 5 strings on each stage?
I believe you are correct, sir. You can probably just have some mags sitting on the table in front of you. Do you even draw or is it just low ready?
It's all good but USPSA is where it's at. Don't be intimidated as a new shooter. Just sign up for a match and go. You will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
