I have been a member of Rochester Brooks (in Rochester of course) for a couple of years. I received a ballot to vote for the Board of Directors. I have read the bios of the 7 candidates. Does anyone know any of them personally and can vouch for them?

I shoot with Bob Urban and Eli Saber and am casting votes for both of them. Both are very devoted to the shooting sports.
I don't know any of the other candidates, but one bio stood out negatively for me: Someone who joins in 2018 should spend a few years being a member, learning the club, meeting people, volunteering, before thinking they deserve a position on the B.O.D. in the same year they join.

Bob an Eli are the only ones that are pistol and rifle shooters. I’ll be voting for them.
I shoot everything they have to offer but I want someone on the board that will look after the pistol/rifle people.
Some of those shotgun guys would love to close down the pistol/rifle ranges.

I refused to renew this year, after the bullshit they pulled last year with the rifle and pistol ranges. Eli being on the board would definitely be a step in the right direction.
I'm not a member. I have met with Eli Saber in the past. He is a true shooting sport enthusiast. I've always gotten the feeling that Brooks is more of a country-club style of gun club, more focused on traditional skeet and trap shoots than on the emerging tactical shooting sports. If anyone can change that trend, it would be Eli.

The pistol bays were pretty much left unmonitored and everyone was expected to be on their best behavior, clean up after themselves, etc. Too many idiots doing stupid shit like shooting up old TVs and leaving things a mess, putting cans up on the 4x4 posts and shooting them all to hell etc. The classic "the fun of many ruined by few". The hours were greatly reduced as they needed to be monitored when in use. Not supposed to put anything on the berms anymore, I used to put clays up there all the time. I liked hanging water filled bottles from the snow fencing, reactive targets are so much more fun. Not allowed anymore.
Clays can still be put on the berms. I was there earlier this week and put them up. But you are right just about anything else is restricted. Range hours have been extended for people that take a 2-3 hour "training session" that simply reviews the rules covered under the initial orientation.
At the class I attended the instructor said some idiot was shooting at something on the ground in front of the berms and the rounds bounced off either a rock or other object and traveled over the berms and above the head of people that were using one of the shotgun skeet/trap areas. This supposedly happened during one of the big tournaments when all of the shotgun bays are in use and the gates to the pistol bays are left up day. They never found the people responsible, so they aren't sure if it was even a member that was involved.
I don't think it's wise to have a shotgun area downstream from the pistol bays, period. It's too much of a risk. Better to not use that area for tournaments or shut down the pistol bays during the tournaments. I would prefer the former over the latter but the last thing I want to see is someone get shot.

Rules/times are back to normal. Paper targets on snow fence and clays on berms are allowed. 9-dusk. No clays on rifle berms but I still see them there.
The only big difference I’ve seen is when you have a firearm not pointing down range even if action is open will get you a visit from their mall cops
