Dunedain Ranger
.40 S&W
I have about 4 or 5 AR15s, and of course tons of ammo and mags for them all. With all the Biden bulls&%t and supposed talk of "banning ar15s", i know it prob wont happen, i wanted something that is not an AR15, but uses and does the same thing as one.
In the beginning of the summer i was vacationing in Ocean City Maryland. Alas there was a nice gun store on the road into Assateague island, right outside of OC. In the shop, behind the counter, was a sign that said "Cash and carry on all rifles and shotguns". Well i had some cash, and my arms can carry. I found a cool looking OD green Kel tec RDB c that shot .223 and 5.56 and took ANY ar15 magazine.
Just what i was looking for. I admit its a bit odd looking, with its bullpup design, and ranch style grip, for NY and California legality, hence the C after RDB. Why it was in a gun shop in Maryland is beyond me, but just solidified that it was meant for me. Only thing i needed to do to make it NY/NJ legal was i had to pin the threaded barrel adapter, no biggy. After the 10 minute background check i drove home with it.
First time i brought it up to my property to target shoot, i did not have an optic for it or a front hand stop. Needless to say, it was very hard to sight, and i walked away saying it was useless without a sight. I decided to upgrade it before i took it out shooting again. I got a nice green dot optic sight, a front hand stop, and a new handguard from lifeindustries in OD green. If you own a Kel tec RDB def look into life industries, they are one of the few companies that makes some nice stuff for it. It looks sick now, and awesome, plus i put a sling on it.
Last few times i took it out, fully upgraded, i loved it, including just this past weekend. It is dead nuts on, and i can ring the bell from 400 yards everytime. Its heavy though, and a bit awkward to hold, especially when used to firing ar15s all the time. You shouldnt wear flip flops, not that i do, while firing this thing, otherwise the downward ejection of the shell casings will land on your feet, or lap if sitting, so prepare accordingly. Its a solid, heavy, piece of machinery, its a mans gun. My wife tried it out, and she is no pansy, she has her own AR15 and handguns, and is very proficient in firearms. She hated the Kel tec. She even has a bruise on her shoulder from it. I think its just too heavy and awkward for her, and i cant fault her for it.
As much as i really like this gun, and again i only got it as a back up non ar15 that can still be an ar15, so to speak, i find myself putting it down after running 30 or 40 rounds through it, and picking back up the ARs. Its still a cool, well firing gun though. Its a completely different system too. Its got a long charging handle, a similar BCG as an AR but much smaller, a weird hammer compared to other guns, and its a bull pup, and ejects the casings downward. A different but cool firing machine.
Anybody else have one here, in 5.56, and the RDB c version or similar? Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
