Anybody shoot the steel matches ??

I just shot my first real steel match. the Blue mountain Steel Challenge in PA yesterday day . Man was that FUN . I did not do so good , As a matter of fact I can say "I Sucked" but wow was that allot of fun. I have to head out to a club event but I am going to post a video of me shooting when I get a chance,

While I was shooting I though I had the utmost accuracy, ONE SHOT ONE PLATE! and Blazing fast speeds, and lighting like reloads. but watching the video I missed quite a few plates and it looked like I was going in slow motion . All said and done I had a great day and ran into some of the folks from up state NY that I normally see at the Glock matches

Does anybody know of any others in the area

My grandfather used to take me to pistol steel shoots somewhere near Geneva but that was years ago.

I havent gotten to shoot steel match yet but two of the action handgun matches I went to this year each had a version of one of the steel challange stages and weirdly enough it they were probably the most fun stages of the day.

I really want to get more into it, my buddy is super into steel challange. Was down in GA this year for nationals (I believe) and was even featured on a shooting video on the USPSA fb page

Just a little sideline suggestion from a nonprofessional I'd suggest trying to reload before slide lock. So if you have 10+1 after 10 rounds reload this way you don't have to worry about racking the slide, it may help shave some fractions of time off.

Again I am not anything serious with competition and just armchairing but I have read most professional shooters do not let their guns run dry and try to reload before it happens..

I did not line up with my first target

Something for you to try the next time you face a wide-spread array of targets. Set up so you are indexed on the LAST target. Then, keeping your feet in place and turning with your knees, index on the first target that you will draw to and engage. Doing so will allow you to unwind into your more natural stance as opposed to muscling yourself more and more out of your natural stance and into an unnatural stance as you progress through the targets. Try it both ways, see what works best for you.

The suggestion to reload before slide lock is good except............. that will get you into counting rounds as you shoot and that may prove to be more of a distraction than it's worth. Thinking and high speed shooting are not compatible.

Hesitating to see the steel fall, or even listening for the "ding", is a steel shooting trap everyone falls into at some point. The answer is focusing on calling your shots. If you see that the sights were on the plate when the shot broke you don't need any more confirmation. "See what you need to see to make the shot." = Brian Enos

I was more or less suggesting pic the target that is number 9 or 10 and game plan that's the target you reload on vs counting out rounds, if you have a few misses adjust accordingly

What pistol where u using?

I was using my good ole well worn out stock Glock G17 Gen 3 . Although I purchased a 2011 STI edge to use in competion I just does not feel correct in my hand. All my Glocks feel like they were custom made for my hands , I actually finally got extra Gen 2 10 round magazines that I had to wait almost a year for them as they were is a redesign stage or something

Just say NO , with all the Guns you bought and one thru the GSSF program your set for a while

Once that timer goes off your left with your big gross motor skills your small ones that take thought disappear

Thank you , I-actually know not to wait for the plates to drop. I shoot a glock match and I run thru the plates and then sweep back and anything still standing I re engage. My brain knows to do that on a plate rack but for some reason I can see in the vid I did not move on till it was dropping, I cant wait to return to a match to use all of these great suggestions

I was using my G17 , the album I put the video in to host it in is called STI because I have picture of the STI edge I bought. I wanted to shot the STI in this match but I just got magazine and have not run any thing thru the gun to vet it, I cant even tell you how many rounds have been thru my glock, As long as I clean it once every 3000 round or so she always runs

Thank you every one for all of your great suggestions and encouragement , I am on the hunt for a steel match that size, (6 stages with about 32 to 34 in each stage) I am going to try and run my STI edge . As soon as I find one Ill post it and maybe some other folks will want to squad up and go with me. And yes I love the sound of lead hitting steel my self , But I like PING.PING.PING not
