Very nice! I forgot all about this old thread and had to go back and reread it, there's some good advice from some smart people, specially that Repete fella!
Thank you, I wish I could take credit, but all I did was follow the advice from all of you, the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook and instructions that came with the Lee mold and pot. I was surprised when I opened that first mold and the bullets came out shiney. When I first started to cast the lead was over 1000 F.perfect pour .. they look awesome .. almost to pretty to shoot LOL ..
Thank you. I was happy with them and surprised they came out the way they did.Very nice results. What sort of lead are you using? I've used wheel weights for 40 years for my pistol bullets (moderate velocity plain base .38s and .45s). My wheel weights are from the 1980s, before the blend got weird. No complaints yet after thousands of bullets.
Whos "repete".Very nice! I forgot all about this old thread and had to go back and reread it, there's some good advice from some smart people, specially that Repete fella!
Thanks!The bullets look great!
You're a brave man doing that on a glass table!
Just be aware that if you spill any lead on the glass, it will probably shatter and dump 20 lbs of molten lead on your lap. Thanks!
Yeah, casting with hot lead that could do some damage to a newbie like me, just wasn't risky enough.
The truth is it's the only outdoor table we have, but I was careful. I should have at least put a wooden board on the table. But, I couldn't pass up the nice day. I don't have any cover from the weather and it seems we've been getting rain in the evening often. When I got home from work I saw there was no rain in the forecast for the evening, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally try my hand at casting.
Thank you for your advice. I'll make sure to come up with a better solution the next time I cast. I was only casting with 5lbs of lead. Will that burn less?Just be aware that if you spill any lead on the glass, it will probably shatter and dump 20 lbs of molten lead on your lap.
I'll cast bullets wearing shorts and flipflops, but the glass table scares me!
I never gave that a thought! Spill some on the glass and the sudden heat and expansion POP!Just be aware that if you spill any lead on the glass, it will probably shatter and dump 20 lbs of molten lead on your lap.

Thank you. All the advice helped quite a lot! That is hands down the cleanest casting operation I have ever seen! Nice job!!!!
