Rifles for turkey would float more if idiots would stop shooting each other over the sound of a turkey. I had to leave an area I was bowhunting for deer last year because some doofus came out into the field and started blasting at pheasants. I yelled to the guy about 10 times before he realized I was just off the field, even though I had a bright bandana tied to a tree in the area I was sitting. For there to be rifles in NY for turkey, we need to cure stupid first.I have two woodchucks with a 22lr and FINALLY two bastard red squirrels after switching to a 20 gauge .
If only NYS would do the right thing and allow rifles for Turkey hunting I'd consider it.
Same here.Or are we just here to talk politics?
Song birds are going crazy but not a peep from a Tom.

Good luck to anyone else out here.
Tough weather for sure. Then it will be so leafed out and hard to see after the rain. I never get out spring turkey hunting and usually try to in the fall. Spring is too busy for me with all the house and yard work. I have not spring turkey hunted since I was a teenager.Nasty weather for the next 6 days. I'll hunt deer in iffy weather, but I don't love turkey hunting enough to get soaked or have to tear my shotguns apart to clean them over 4 pounds of meat.
Exactly why @Bustedknees wants rifles for turkeys, and I agree.Been watching 2 toms flirting with a hen about 200 yards behind house, of course flat open ground with nothing for cover.
Across road about 400 yards out, 3 toms strutting for a group of 5 hens
THIS is why I hunt turkeys with my $80 NEF single shot 12 gauge. It's easy to clean and....well......I don't care too much.Nasty weather for the next 6 days. I'll hunt deer in iffy weather, but I don't love turkey hunting enough to get soaked or have to tear my shotguns apart to clean them over 4 pounds of meat.

Nice bird.Have not hunted past week. But after two nice days of sun and third day of no rain started to get caught up on farm chores. Got spraying done on food plots, got a 1/2 ton of lime spread on my favorite spot, and got two down trees cut and out of field where they fell. So gave it another go for turkey today. At first light lots of gobbles. This one was one of two that came in close. A third was 109 yards out. All three came in thundering. Taken at 30 yards. 19# 8 oz. 9” beard
A friend gets to hunt on Lancaster speedway and I’m jealous because the deer and turkey there aren’t so spooked and there are tons of them. The owner get a bit squirrely becuase he’s afraid the neighbors will get mad about seeing a man walking around with a gun there so he really limits who can go. I’ve got turkeys around me but can’t shoot them because neighbors are way too close and it’s illegal. Maybe I’ll fall turkey hunt if I can get caught up on my chores around here with starting another job soon. I’ve got a lot to do around the house and yard so not sure I can make that happen.Same here.
But I will get out a bit.
I also have my shotgun ready to go because sometimes birds just show up in the yard.![]()
