I recently ordered a G22.5 for my work gun and then realized that the gen 5 has a thicker slide than the previous generations. I had to place a "custom" order for a Safariland duty holster, as they are now making this holster to accommodate this new pistol. It got me wondering if anyone has had any luck using any other holsters with these? I just checked and the Gen 5 .40's slide is 1mm thinner than the G21 .45ACP. That sounds like it should work if you can't find one specifically made for the new gen 5 .40's.

I'd be leary about even small amounts of dimensional slop in a Glock holster. While the Glock is a fantastic weapons system, careful holster use is essential for safety.
Gen 4 G21 is 1.12" and Gen 5 G22 is 1.08". While it may not sound huge, .04 inches is not a negligible number, it's almost a 4% difference.

As stated the difference is 1mm. I'm thinking it would work fine depending on the type of holster. Leather and hybrid should work good. Also I was thinking more of a situation like the Safariland 6300 duty series with the felt lining, which are snug anyway. Also most light bearing setups grab the light and not the slide so those should work good too. Just looking for other first hand experience.

1mm should in theory be fine I’d think. I’m sure that’s within their tolerances. Hopefully you get a tight one to begin with.
Hopefully I won't need to because I ordered a custom one specifically for the new G22.5. But if that doesn't come quick enough for my needs I'll try out the G21 holster and see how it fits. With Amazon you can always return it within 30 days for free so it'll be worth a try.

Different guns, but I have a kydex hylster made for my 21, if i tighten the screws on it my 19 works. Not all holsters are made this way, but many are so you can adjust tension.

Believe it or not, yes. The 9mm fanboys wouldn't like you to know that, but some people do prefer or need a better performing, higher pressure round, especially where hard barrier penetration is concerned.

The original problem with the .40 is that it's substantially more powerful than the 9mm while being housed in a pistol the same size as a 9mm. Nothing was beefed up from the Glock 17 to Glock 22. Beefing it up in Gen 5 is really only doing what Glock should've done to chamber it in .40 in the first place.
Agree with you on the performance level and the preference. I'm definitely a .40 fan. It isn't higher pressure than the 9mm, though. Both have a SAAMI max pressure spec of 35,000 PSI. The 9mm is actually the higher pressure round since 9mm +P is rated to 38,500 PSI. I don't know who started that nonsense rumor, but it's one of those annoying bits of common knowledge that just ain't so and usually one that anti-.40 people use to shit on it.

Well I got a Glock G27 gen 5 waiting at the FFL for me so I will be happy to report back once I get it and have a chance to shoot it. I’ve shot 50AE, 45acp, 357 mag, 380acp and 9mm out of pistols so it will be interesting to compare.
I'll bet that 50AE was gas operated though.

side note I don’t get the hate people have for the 40. Honestly if 40 was invented first and then later on the 10mm, I don’t think people would hate on the 40 like they do. To me 40 vs 10mm is like 38 special and 357 magnum. I don’t see people hating on 38 special cause it’s the wimpy version of 357 magnum.
