Anyone had a AR pistol or lower transferred to their permit at a gun show?

SSIA. I’m interested to learn if anyone has had an AR pistol or lower added to their NYSPP at a gun show? Did you have to present the pistol to them for inspection? Did they allow you to transfer just the lower to your permit? Did they ask (or tell you) that a specific caliber needed to be articulated for it to go on the permit?

For reference, I am in Onondaga County and the Sheriffs office usually has a booth set up at the Syracuse gun show where they can amend your permit on the spot.

Are you asking about a lower you already own? I'd be surprised if you find anybody to do it, unless you are buying a complete pistol at the show.

from what i know .. if the lower is booked as a pistol lower at the FFL .. then its a pistol lower .. at the LGS or gun show ..

Lot of ffl's don't want to do pistols unless bought whole. They are kind of taking your word on caliber, making legal and such. I could see a pistol marked lower putting them at a little more ease.

No, I would like to buy a stripped AR lower (pistol) from a vendor at the show, have it added to my permit as such and then build the pistol at my time/leisure. I’d like to be able to list it as “multi cal” or at least dual caliber so that if I choose to change the upper at some point down the road, I’m still in compliance.

From my experience, to build an ar pistol from a stripped lower, you kind of need a very friendly ffl- hard to find, and I doubt you'll get somebody at the gun show to do it for you. There are certain legalities involving manufacturing doing it that way which I don't remember off the top of my head. @Eddie Gunks would be able to explain better if he's not already sick of explaining it.

You can't have "multi" listed as caliber, although on my last one, it is listed as 556/22lr because I told them I have a 22 conversion which is fairly common for pistols. Asking for multiple calibers might also get you some concerned looks from the pistol permit office, I would stick with one. Keep in mind a lot of offices are not exactly aware of what you are doing, don't ask them too many stupid questions.

Erie county only wants to see make model caliber and serial number on receipt for pistols. They don't ask for anything more, and I don't tell them anything more.

Lowers can not be booked as pistols BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT PISTOLS THEY ARE LOWERS!!!!!
