The Tikka plastic shroud is pure BS. Of you examine a Tikka bolt there is no way the shroud could move unless the chamber pressure was so high as to cause a complete case failure. In that case, the gas would blow out the floorplate and exit through the magazine. Unlike the infamous Remington trigger which could and did fail (due to poor maintenance), SAKO has never been sued or paid out millions in damages as Remington has. I have/do own/ed many 700/721/722/725 rifles. IF kept clean, the triggers works fine. However, like all enclosed trigger systems they will pack up in salt air, dirty/dusty, wet/freezing conditions. The quest for super light triggers has led to this design. IMHO, there is no better hunting trigger than the good old Mauser 2 stage when tuned by an expert. Winchester has ruined the M70 trigger that will no longer be 100% reliable and dead simple stupid.
Tikkas change from plastic to aluminum is due to cosmetics, whining gun writers and people who don't get modern synthetics. The same people who dismiss Glocks.
You'll be hard put to find any documented, witnessed, photographed damage to anyone hurt by a Tikka having a synthetic bolt shroud fail.
Only time that I know of Remington being part of a class action involving negligent death and having to do a recall was the X Mark Pro. My understanding is that the XMP issue is long since solved; even though like I said I swapped XMP's for Timney 510s on my 700''s with XMP. My 700 P's have the old trigger systems and are the same as the M24. Never had a failure (knock on wood). You can't even put a number to the amount of successful missions involving an M24 and 700 Police. Slam Remington all you want; but they have been around for over 200 years now and many of their designs were extremely successful. And that's not to say Sako doesn't have a long history - they are almost 100 years old too. But chances are Sako had design failures over their long history too. In fact I bet every century old arms manufacturer has had disasters over the years. If you have some 700's you don't want; I might be interested if the price is right. I especially wouldn't mind adding some old 700 Classics. I have the 338 WinMag (1987) but would love to add 1995 and maybe 1991 or 1989. I don't own any Weatherby magnums. ;-(
