Anyone have any info on AOW shotguns as far as I can find it is the only class 3 NFA item that’s not expressly banned in NY but can’t find a dealer that’s willing to help me through the process
I’ve come across threads from like 2015 where guys have bought them but they didn’t say where and this is another way to stick it to the state by getting one of these I’m gna keep trying till I find itprobably easier to find a leprechaun's gold at this point in time.
Are we talking about a Shockwave? I thought consensus was GTG in NY (even though my personal opinion is it would be considered firearm under NY law but I digress). I get that it is "technically" not a shotgun under NY law... but if it looks like a duck, and sounds like a duck... anyway flame on!
Is the Mossberg Shockwave (and or the Remington Tac-14) Legal in New York? Surprisingly Yes, I Think — New York Criminal Attorney Blog — September 11, 2017
As New York Firearms Lawyers we are often asked about the legality of certain specific guns in New York given the very complex laws about what firearms — September 11, 2017www.google.com
The Shockwave isn't an AOW. It is simply a Firearm. (Pistol Grip Only Firearm actually)
There are possibilities but I best believe you’d have to be a LEO or just plain and simple move to another state unless you want to challenge NY.Anyone have any info on AOW shotguns as far as I can find it is the only class 3 NFA item that’s not expressly banned in NY but can’t find a dealer that’s willing to help me through the process
Well, in NY law a shockwave falls under "other" on 4473, but an AOW (like a Serbu shorty for example) doesn't. As I recall, @Eddie Gunks was waiting on an ATF response on people trying to acquire AOW Serbus for a year or more before he left.Firearm under Fed law sure... but what about NY?
NY makes up their own rules and even when you find a way around it, they just make sure you don’t get anything that is a loophole to the unSAFE ACT.
The thing that bother me the most is that all of these infringements are illegal yet are still in place. Why? And how?I don't want to drag this off topic, but even after all these years it strikes me as odd when people refer everything back to SAFE act. We had rather strict gun laws in NY before it, and it had nothing to do with any changes regarding NFA items.
That’s just crazy.Yeah I can see that being problematic in NY...
What's the argument?
Not a shotgun because not designed to be fired from shoulder...
Not a pistol because smooth bore barrel...
Not an assault weapon because not semi-automatic...
What else?
All class 3 stuff needs to go through an FFL with a special class 3 license.Anyone have any info on AOW shotguns as far as I can find it is the only class 3 NFA item that’s not expressly banned in NY but can’t find a dealer that’s willing to help me through the process
Thanks a lot man.All class 3 stuff needs to go through an FFL with a special class 3 license.
They are very rare in NY. But if you find an appropriately licensed FFL in ny they will have no problem helping you get an AOW shotgun.
In other states many (most ?) normal gun shops have them, so they are common.
I believe @BulletguyNick deals with them.
That’s what I’m looking for a shop that can do it I know the processThanks a lot man.
Whenever you find one let us know. That’s what I’m looking for a shop that can do it I know the process

He will have something.Sweet, will he have one of those giant novelty checks?
Thats how it used to be. That's no longer necessary.Just another thought. Pretty sure I also read via ATF site that to get an AOW, where legal, you must also have to have local police chief or sheriff sign off on you getting one first.

Goes to show how long it's been since I looked into getting one lol. This has apparently changed and now you need only provide them notification you've filed a Form One or Four.
