Is it anything like the AR pistol brace? Is it current interpretation that brace on Shockwave is a no go? I think so so that's off the table.
That's what I would go with if I had *any faith whatsoever in ATF not to make me a felon with a tap of Trump's twitter and a stroke of ATF head's pen*.
Is it anything like the AR pistol brace?
ATF doesnt even know anymore.Yup and I recall it being relegated to the dustbin of "stuff they used to say is ok that's no longer ok."

Here’s what I don’t understand though. An AR pistol became a Firearm when it was no longer concealable as per the ATF because it was over 26 inches in length and had a forward grip. So those guys that had an arm brace on an AR pistol counting the brace for measurement with their 7 to 10 inch barrels to make it 26 inches were assed out because the brace no longer counted for measurement. So they had to remove their forward grips or it would be considered an untaxed AOW. A felony.iirc the ATF recently came to the decision (because people keep calling THEM and asking THEM if shits legal or not.... seriously guys stop calling or writing if it's legal to do something, just fuck off) that the overall measurement for the OAL can only include parts that are vital in the function of the weapon.
So for example if an AR "other" was measured to 26" (with vertical grip and all that) but had say a LAW Tactical folder on it and an arm brace then the measurement is no longer correct because those arent needed to function. And only from the muzzle to the end of the buffer tube is what can be measured.
This translated into people not feeling kosher with arm braces on the Tac-14 and shockwaves
***edit*** and to be honest if they were good to go, screw the shockwave I'd go with the Tac-13 with SBA4 brace
If your local shops don't have the SOT license needed to deal in NFA items, you might as well get your advice from your barbershop.I think people are just trying to find legit ways to get AOW in this ridiculous state. all my local shops give me different answers on what I can and can’t get.
Well not everybody knows the procedures. Like I said again everyone is going to give you different answers. If your local shops don't have the SOT license needed to deal in NFA items, you might as well get your advice from your barbershop.
But the launcher isn't the "destructive device", the projectile is?
So I’m going to contact this company in Texas to see if they can help me with this the problem I’m having is the local gun shops don’t think it’s legal but the research I have done says it isn’t explicitly banned in NY thanks this was helpfulThe ATF WILL approve paper work for New York regarding smooth bore destructive devices.
This is coming from a company that is (was at the time) selling actual M203 grenade launchers.. they will sell you the reciever and help with the paperwork so you can get approved for a DD then they send the barrel to your FFL.
They called and talked to the ATF and were told they would approve those stamps for NY. Downside is getting NY on board with a grenade launcher as they I believe are specifically mentioned as prohibited under penal law 265

That's the old rules. New rules most people form a trust and the trust owns the NFA items not the individual. There are no BGCs or fingerprints, etc for a trust.Doesn't this also require sign off by a local Police agency? No police agency in NY will sign off on something like this.

Also, there *are* plenty of people in NY who have already done this, it's not a one off idea.
That’s what I’m looking for thanksMaybe look for a list of SOT licensees in NY ?
I did a quick search online and didn't find anything good, but a more extensive search might come up with something. You *could* call the ATF and ask for a list too. They have to have a database, might even be online.
Once you find the SOT holder you want to use, they will be able to answer any questions.
