Applying for Connecticut Non-Resident Permit - Question

Hey All,
I'm in the process of filling out my non-resident pistol permit for CT. My brother is a LEO there and he let his NY permit to lapse so I'm planning on going over there to shoot with him.

I have the packet, the office was very quick to send it out so that's great. However, one form or card rather, has me stumped. I'm supposed to get a FBI fingerprinting done on it before sending it back to CT. How do I get that done? The instructions are pretty clear on what to fill out but doesn't go into details on how to get some of it done. I think I'm good to go on everything else but that fingerprint card. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check with your local PD or Sheriff's Office. Many agencies still do 'civil' fingerprints, but a lot have stopped in deference to electronic fingerprinting. If they won't do it, contact your local NYSP barracks.

Go to your local PD for prints. Just call first to be sure they don’t have limited hours.

It is just the standard FBI fingerprint card CT uses. I just got my CT and had my prints done at my sherriff's department. They also rejected my first set, done by NYSP, and sent me more cards for a do-over.

Word of caution - CT is VERY fussy about fingerprint cards being clear. While mine went through first time, my wife's prints were rejected 3 times before finally accepted.

Yikes. Thank you for the heads up. I'm going to my local PD - spoke with a detective there earlier. Luckily, I'm not in any hurry to get my permit for CT. Hope it goes well.

The guy I took my class with was ex LEO and did them after the class. Mine went through first shot but I know others that had the same problems as @Calculon .

I had same issue with prints. Note I dont think CT requires non resident permit if all you will be doing is target shooting your own pistol. Federal transport rules would cover you to bring pistol to range (locked and unloaded). You do need permit to carry concealed though.

You do realize that in CT, you do not need a permit to shoot there if you are with a CT resident who is licensed/legal while shooting..

Carrying is another story, lol.

Thanks for clearing that up with certainty. Is this something I shouldn't bother with or would it not hurt to pursue anyway since it isn't as difficult? After going through Westchester Cty's ridiculous process, CT looks like a walk in the park.

surprised he never got a FUAC warning to turn them in for moving out ..

No ammo card needed if you have a permit in CT.
"Effective April 1, 2014 you will be required to have either a pistol permit, eligibility certificate for pistol or revolver or a eligibility certificate for long gun in order to purchase firearms and ammunition."

I'm not familiar with the details but he did have to obtain a permit at some point - I didn't pay attention at the time as I really didn't have an interest in taking up firearms as a hobby. I spoke to him over the phone asking if he can come over to my neck of the woods to shoot and that's when he informed me that he let his NY permit lapse and I took his word at face value. I'm going to talk to him later so I'll ask for details then. He was already in CT when he entered the academy and started to get interested in firearms so I don't think NY can touch his guns.

Will do. I already started the paperwork and contacted the local PD to find out how and the when regarding the fingerprints.
