AR 500 plates vs Ceramic plates

What was summary of these vids (can't watch currently)? As a total newb to this, a couple months ago I researched and concluded that for those of us on the site who want to buy this just for shits and giggles the best plates are the ceramic ones from RMAdefense.com $135 gets you a level IV ceramic, which is lighter than the steel, and has a much longer pedigree (ceramic plates--not this specific one), NIJ certified, is Level IV. I have some doubt about the effectiveness of anti-spalling on the steel armor.

My take away.

Ceramic is expensive, light and disposable.

Steel is cheap, heavy, and reusable.

Armor stops the rounds it's rated to stop, and usually doesn’t stop anything more penetrating.

In short, all the stuff you already knew.

Steel for me.

Steel has the potential for spelling, but will last forver. Doesn't stop high velocity threats, think 55 grain out of a 20" barrel, .22-250, .243, etc.

Cermaic is safer on spall and actually rated to stop high velocity threats.


If you plan on just stopping handguns and shotguns, either will do.
