AR-9 fixed magazine loading

Hey guys,

I've built a few ar15's now. With the prevelance of the rifle there are a ton of fixed mag options that make reloading a fixed Mag at the range pretty easy.

Problem is I'm building a 9MM AR rifle now and there are zero products like a comp mag, BF-10, Mean Arms or anything of the sort for a PCC....

SO I JUST WANTED TO KNOW:

1- does anyone know of any mean arms or comp mag type products for PCC's? Or are there any Glock speed loaders I could use to top load while the mag is still in the mag well?

2- if anyone has experience with this, What Have you been doing?

Any tips or tricks are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

This is just my opinion. The way I see it for home defense I have my home defense items. I'm a GC my trade I like to build nice things call me vain but I like to have the bells and whistles. For this reason - going to the range I have no problem pulling the pin and reloading however I have to reload to comply with my state regulations. I'm a born and bread new Yorker while I don't agree with some of the regulations surrounding firearms. I do love our state.

SO in the event of a total "go bag situation" all bets are off and the countries in complete meltdown mode then I can install standard parts to make my rifles more functional. I keep them handy if this were to ever happen.


SIDE NOTE: I still to this day go to the range and see guys (in stall next to cops) dropping mags left and right on your ar platforms. No one at the range seems to care. The way my build "guru" states it. If you're a moron and you're driving drunk with your rifle in the back that not compliant you're a moron and deserve whatever's coming to you. But if your normal at a range or whatever and the personal asking sees that your making an effort for compliance they pretty much appreciate the effort

Other than a muzzle device (which you don't need for a pistol caliber carbine), if you have your AR PCC equipped with a Thordsen stock, the only thing needed to convert back to a standard stock is the removal of one grip screw. The stock comes off, the pistol grip comes back on, and the stock just slides on.

It takes less than 3 minutes to do. I used to do this when I would go to Pennsylvania ranges.

I put together a 9mm AR and used the Thordson stock and the Mean ENDO-mag, it's a 9mm insert that goes into a 30rnd .223 mag it also limits the capacity to 10,15 or 20 rounds your choice.

I was thinking of the endo mag I went with the dedicated 9 lower. I have a thordson stock on one rifle for my 308. Thanks for your Input

How do you like the Mean ENDO if you don't mind my asking?

I have a spare lower I am thinking about AR9'ing up.

He's right. Loading pistol magazines as it is regularly is a thumb buster. Trying to reach in from the top with sharp things in the way just makes it worse.

Well it's a bit on the stiff side when loading (ok guys , run with it! :) ) I do like not having to top load! The extractor is built into the mag adapter and that means if you drop the mag with the bolt closed then rack the slide THERE WILL STILL BE A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER!!! The fix for that is to just empty the mag. If I was doing it all over again I'd be tempted to use the 9mm dedicated lower with Glock mags.

Thanks for the feedback, @repete! I may need to do some research on blocks/adaptors. I had a dedicated Glock lower that I loved but as I currently happen to have two standard multi-cal lowers I'm thinking of doing a block for now. Much appreciated.

You guys probably know much more than I do but in my experience with conversion lots and such...

If you're gonna do it.. do it right. Dedicated lower dedicated upper.

It's it's just for fun and you have a dedicated upper that you can change and use your current lower that's a different story.

I know this is a whole nothing thread..... But what are you guys using in terms of ammo that worked out best in your Ar9 builds?

And buffer/spring weight, tension combo has worked for you guys?

Depends on your setup.

I will tell you a heavier than standard buffer (or a stack of quarters with a milspec) has traditionally been a fairly well established spec.

Antiwalk/anti rotation pins (like KNS) are a no brainer in a straight blowback AR pattern PCC.

Ammo wise my QC10 liked almost everything except for Magtech.

It is pointless and expensive to run hollowpoints. The only feed failures I ever had were hollowpoints.

I like 124 gr FMJ.

My deal is that I currently have an extra multical lower. I'm thinking of running some kind of conversion with a dedicated upper which I can swap out later to a dedicated lower (and then build a different caliber using this lower).

Wait. Why does the mag adapter with the Ejector (no extractor. Extractor is on the bolt) move when you drop the mag? That makes no sense.

@Eddie Gunks can you recommend a good setup for running 9mm in a standard .223 lower? I am not opposed to buying mags (all my glock mags went with my dedicated 9 to my father in law). Don't have the scratch to buy a dedicated lower at the moment I don't think - I contemplate converting it to some other caliber some day down the road when I can get a new glock lower.

@ArmedCorgi I think you built one of these but I can't find the thread?

@BDinPutnam 9mm build time!
I started with the Torkmag magwell kit for Glock mags. Minimally invasive, easy to install and uninstall. I haven't had a chance to actually fire rounds with it since I very quickly after bought a dedicated 9mm lower. If you want to give that a try you are welcome to have it. Send me a PM.
I know there is also an incert that is more substantial but also way more expensive (as expensive as a dedicated Glock lower IIRC) I remember the Military Arms channel on youtube did a review of it.

Hahn . PSA. Magwell adapters are good. There is one more but i cant remmeber now.

Colt smg mags are better imo than glock if the lrbho is important to you (10 rd glock mags are fickle at best for lrbho)

I run all colt smg lowers and adapters.

Get the mags ffom
Brownells. $40 each.

Do NOT buy the cheap $12 mags.
