AR Build Issue: Hammer Pin will not pass hammer retainer wire

My 3rd build, have an Anderson black trigger LPT (yeah cheap stuff) and when I tried installing the hammer the hammer pin will not get past the little retainer deal that keeps the hammer pin in place. Even on the bench it would not hammer past it (I tried to hit it hard too. Anyone ever have this issue, any solution besides tossing the hammer? I already used another so the lower is completed.

Poke something in there and see if the retainer pin/spring is moving out of the way. If its not, pull the retainer pin/spring, clean out the groove, and try again.

Ah it is called a j wire - found this on another site, have not tried yet, will do as Kev suggested. That tool set dsdmmat suggested look nice too.

The J wire is inside the hammer and provides tension on the hammer pin. The J wire will snap into the mid length notch of the hammer pin and retain the hammer pin. If the J wire is good, you will feel resistance as the end of the hammer pin is about halfway in as the J wire hits the end of the pin. With a firm push or tap, the pin will push the J wire out of the way since the end of the hammer pin is beveled. You will then feel some drag is the J wire rubs the shaft of the pin. When fully seated, the hammer pin will snap into place as the J wire engages the midlength notch in the hammer pin. This system prevents the hammer pin from walking (drifting to one side during fire or dry fire). If the J wire is absent, loose, or weak, the hammer pin will not be properly retained and the hammer pin can walk out. This can be detected with dry fire, if you see one end of the pin protruding out more and more, and the other end sunken in the receiver. In extreme cases, the pin can disengage from one side of the receiver and jam the fire control system, causing a major stoppage.

This hammer is something the j wire does move but I still cannot get the hammer pin through the hammer, tried several different ones. I tried pulling the wire out, it is in there, not budging - technique suggestion for me? I am thinking of grinding down a pin some to make it tapered to see if that will set the wire some??

Nothing special, this has me more curious than anything. I do not think I will use this one. Just I hate not knowing how to fix something.

You can pull the retaining pin out. You have to be very careful not to tweek anything though.

If you do manage to get it apart, you're going to find a little metal burr in the pin recess.

Huh.. learn something new every day. Never even heard of a j spring.

Try taking an old pin or make a dummy pin the correct diameter and put a slight radius on the end, easy way to radius or bevel the end is to chuck the pin in a drill or drill press and the use sand paper on a hard block to get the edge down.
