I didn't with anything. I put those as examples and actually would not buy that kit.
If on a tight budget I would buy a mid budget barrel and bolt and then stick to the
cheapest shell (receivers deals I could find) that you have amazing that are up to spec.
Possibly a UTG pro rail that are affordable and indestructible. US made too.
Ya I understand I advised to purchase parts and fully build it right, but that's not what he wants sadly. I told him I made this thread and he lurked.

Don't know who cuts that barrel for Anderson but you could ask.
The thing with bull barrels and specially 20" is that it will be very heavy and not necessarily help with accuracy
because although the barrel will be more rigid the weak point is the receiver thread / extension area with
any AR. This is a bit mitigated with the monolithic uppers specially when putting down pressure shooting prone
but I don't think there is a clear benefit going bull. Of course a bull barrel will take longer to get hot in rapid
fire but how much is marginal.
For target I would also go Stainless steel or melonite with a smooth finish. SS can be lapped, melonite not but
will get better over time.

It seems fairly accurate as-is. I am doing 3 shot groups at 100 where the holes touch; as long as I am shooting 75 grain national match. When I try the cheap Winchester white box or that Federal AE ammo in the 55 grain range; the groups are bad though. I am attributing that though to the 1:7 twist of the Wylde. So I am sticking with 75 grain Hornady, and in fact I bought IMR 8208 XBR Smokeless Powder and the Hornady A-Max 80 Grain Boat Tail and I am thinking my reloads will be even better than the 75 grain NM boxes.
I will say this though - my most accurate AR far and away is the Bushmaster Varminter I bought 15 years ago. I think their machinists must be REALLY GOOD at their job.

Oh ok! if it shoots 75gr hpbt hornadys then I would leave it alone. They have great deals on the 600 value packs
and they are pretty consistent. If it likes those it might like the 77gr TMKs and 77gr bergers also amazing but
cannot beat the deal of the hdy value packs in hpbt and amax. the 68hpbt also load and shoot virutally the same
as the 69 smk. Over the years I have been saving buying the bulk deals so I have plenty of those until my number comes up.

Where do you grab 600 round value packs of the heavy grain rounds? Herb Phillipsons here in town has less ammo than I probably do. It's kind of sad. Does Gander Mountain do value packs? I think it's the 1:7 twist that's making it impossible to feed the lower grain rounds. Like they refuse to stabilize for that barrel or something. I should probably take that stupid AK I have, and sell it and buy a nice upper or two that is good for different rounds. Maybe something gas piston with a stainless barrel and 1:9 twist?

I got many at BEikirchs locally but I also ordered from Midway, Grafs when they were on sale. I think 80gr and 75gr amax I paid as low as $89
for 600 bullets packs and also below $100 for the 500 SMK value packs.
These things only go up every year but I think one can still find decent deals. One needs to buy bulk like I did. Sometimes ordered 6K bullets at
the time or more. Same with primers and other components. Anyone who competes orders bult but even if one doesn't shoot a lot is a good
idea and then reload as needed.
The midway seconds bulk packs can also be great deals. As far as I can see many of them are only cosmetic things that do no timpact accuracy and all
they do is midway will package them with gray tips or something other than the normal colored tip from hornady or nosler.
I think 1:7 should work with everything other than very thin hypervelocity bullets 40-50gr that might separate from the jacket but rarely see those anymore. I think 1-8 is a good compromise and 1:9 should be the standard for people shooting the bulk ammo but 1-8 is needed by most match heavy loads.
Also check the muzzle device. It doesn't take much for a muzzle device to interfere with the bullet during vibration and makers do not always give the necessary clearance that should be at least 60 thousands over the ID. I have experienced this conditition before due to a mistake.
the Black Hole Weaponry sold me a barrel with run out and although one would not notice this at first then it became clear after putting a brake. what a POS. ...it is rare but it can happen.
I am just saying to discard potential factors...

Well this has come back with my buddy and I have convinced him to piece it together. So I will make a list and will be open to vendors suggestions and any part that isn't picked out yet.

ARP would be my personal go-to but here's a Faxon that's middle of the road cost-wise. Faxon Firearms AR-15 5.56 Nato Pencil Barrel QPQ - 16
If all I wanted was a really light rifle, I'd probably use that barrel (plus $1000+ worth of lightweight parts for the rest of the gun). It won't handle heat well though.
Honestly, he's gotta figure out if he wants accuracy or price. If you're gonna go piece by piece and want a 1 MOA gun, put the money into a good barrel. How many guys get done shooting an MOA group, stand up and say "Man, I wish I'd saved that $75 on the barrel. This rifle just shoots too well."

He doesn't necessarily want to go cheap, but everything I was finding was $400-500 range. Considering he wants the binary trigger it's not a precision build either. We were looking for a good mid grade barrel. This isn't a light weight build either. Still looking for a barreled upper I think that's where he really wants to be, but I'm working on him to part it out.

For the barrel or the upper? Bullet Guy has barrels in the low $200 range and that ARP barrel that mek linked in the first page is $185. Uppers with a mid-grade barrel are gonna be in that general $400 to $500 range.

I don't have it listed on there but I also have GM-M4 and GM-M5 which are m4 profile and 1:8 and 1:7 twist . Simply buy the GM-m8 and mention in comments you want the 4 or 5.

See both those barrels you guys point out is what I would consider mid range. Maybe my internet skills were off last night but all the barrels I was finding were much more costly than that. I admit I don't keep up with the barrel manufacturers and what's good and what's not.
You have your low end barrels. Bear creak, Anderson, Radical, Palmetto (except their FN Barrels are mid end) etc etc. Then mid end falls into Green mountain, colt, faxon, Ballistic advantage, etc etc etc, Then I consider high end to be custom barrels krieger shilen criterion etc etc
Some of the names I mention don't even make their own barrels but what they use comes to be considered lower end barrels or middle of the road barrels. Now don't get me wrong some of the lower end barrels such as bear creaks I have had under 1 moa. It all depends if you reload or not and its also a luck game. Some barrels will just shoot better than others even if its the same exact barrel. A lot of other stuff also comes into play.
Just take into consideration what you want to do. Do you want a $75-100 barrel to plink with then sure its going to be perfectly fine and should group 2-3moa consistently with a decent shooter. Do you want a mid end barrel that will probably shoot the same but be more durable and have a better finish such as nitride or a chrome lining. Or do you want a high end barrel which in my opinion really serves no purpose unless you are in competition or like to add a lot of weight to punch tiny groups into paper.
He's definitely searching the mid range category. I advised him not to go cheap because with the binary trigger could really put a cheap barrel to the test.
