It does look like they will treat these protests differently.
But please perform this very simple exercise:
Trump wins the election, he gets the votes, the electoral college gets him what he needs on January 6, and he's set to start second term on the 20th. In the meantime the left--who have been in an increasing rage over fraud they say is rampant--claim that Trump did not win the election, that it was stolen from biden. They break into the capitol at the very heard of the federal government, and then they say they will march on all the state capitals.
In this scenario I am sure many here would be calling for their heads, saying next time they need to be shot on sight for insurrection, etc. Further that looting stores for sneakers is one thing but trying to undermine democracy is treason and they must be hanged.
So in other words I'm saying they do need to treat these protests differently. Let's not get ahead of ourselves: nobody out with a trump flag screaming next to the fence of any capital is going to get arrested for expressing the first amendment, but these places need to be hardened and no leniency given to people trying to break into state or federal government buildings.

To say this is unusual is an understatement. I dont believe in a vast unknown militia uprising to take back the Whitehouse like the FBI is implying.
