Video shows new details about armed robbery in Brockport Walmart

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said that there was an armed robbery at Walmart in Brockport and a knife was used.

"Monroe County sheriff’s deputies say it all started when a man stole a bunch of meat. That’s when a person who saw the theft approached the suspect. Deputies say the suspect had a sharp object, possibly a knife, and that’s when the person pulled out his legally registered handgun."

They don't say who the person is who "saw the theft and approached the suspect". Walmart has standing orders for employees NOT to follow shoplifters out to the parking lot, and NOT carry personal handguns while on duty.

If someone sees a theft and confronts the suspect is it considered self defense? I'm actually surprised that the random "do-gooder" hasn't been arrested for menacing. This IS the People's Republik of New Yorkistan after all.

Sorry, but don't be a dumbass confronting thieves from Walmart with your CCW. There is NOTHING good to come of it. That gun is for your protection, and the innocents around you. A dude stealing from Walmart is Walmart problem. They sure as hell won't be footing the bill for legal defense in the event you're charged in New Yorkistan. Self protection is best..................if the perp had tried to rob the gun owner, a shot to a vital area would have been considered justified, but discharging a handgun inside a market gets you 25 years to life.

The homeless, BLM, Illegals, regularly conceal meats and foods under their shirts...............like a bulletproof vest..............

Why should we pay for anything anymore?.................. at some point an entire society theoretically explodes,.......... and self defense will become necessary, to get thru a simple checkout line, or kiosk, if the checkout people are missing, or are dead.

Your neighbors will be riding around in a "technical" if there are Toyota's around, to protect the hood.

It'd be one thing if the guy was threatening to kill someone. If he's stealing some meat, that is a lot cheaper to replace than hiring a lawyer.

They said “citizen” so I’m guessing not a Walmart employee. The question is was the citizen the aggressor? I don’t think approaching someone in the parking lot makes him the aggressor, the dude pulled a knife first so I say self defense. I’m not a lawyer though.

Meat is a big theft item at Walmart. When I was with Walmart AP, we had a guy who would try to tape Kool-Aid packets to meat so when he scanned it, it looked like he was scanning meat but paying for Kool-Aid.

Exactly. And even then, a threat assessment is required. Does he have the capability to follow through on his threat.

If a 90 year-old unarmed lady in a wheelchair yells at me "I'm gonna kill you", yes it was a threat, but shes not really capable.

Ok this is the run down from my nephew who has 1st hand knowledge of this.
Guy goes into Walmart once a week for 5 weeks and loads a shopping cart up with meat.
Meat counter guy got sick of it and as they got to the front door told thief he’s not leaving with it this time.
Thief says “fuck you, I’ll kill you” and pulls a knife on meat counter guy.
CC citizen that was just walking in, sees what’s happening and pulled his gun.
Thief left the cart of meat and ran off

Not discounting the 1st hand knowledge, but it is interesting that the news report says the incident occurred in the parking lot, not within the store.

I'd also be surprised if the meat counter guy isn't summarily fired. Walmart seems to do that to anyone who attempts to stop theft.

Question is why was the guy allowed to even step foot back in the store after week 1 or even 2?
