Arrow Fletching

I am considering learning how to fletch my own arrows. I have 9 perfectly useable arrows sitting unused because they’ve got mangled vanes. The archery shop’s price to re-fletch is such that it’s better to just buy new arrows. I can’t see wasting these ones though.

Does anyone fletch their own arrows? Help me get set up.

I bought a simple rig last year along with some fletch adhesive. So far so good. I believe it was this one....

It allows you to attach all 3 at once. Pretty straightforward. I got the "helical" fletcher. It give your shafts spin in flight. Bought it on Amazon and cant remember what I paid but it was reasonable.

some gel super glue and vanes or feathers and your off fletching

Never used them, but I know they make shrink wrap fletching as well. Clean the shaft, slide it on and dunk in hot/boiling water.

I have a bunch of different jigs and stuff to do it. If you have replacement vanes and glue and want to borrow one let me know. I'd have to dig and see if I still have blazers left, i'm sure I have a bag of some laying around still somewhere.....I'm in Middletown, pm me if you'd like.

I tried these on my wifes set up and they were terrible.

Never tried one of those but it looks like it would work fine for vane / plastic fletching. I have been fletching my own arrows with feathers for 20 + years on a multi single jig setup. The jig is set for an 11* helix . Despite what some manufacturers claim and some people think the offset helix is for better arrow flight stability.

I've been using a Bitzenburger jig for years. I think I bought it at Gander Mountain like 15 years ago. It's easy to use and will last a lifetime.

It shouldn't matter as long as they are all the same and you aren't using an odd vane (like NAP's Quickspin). "Normal" vanes or fletchings can be done either way.

Most people will not notice any difference in a right or left “ standard 2* offset helix” ( straight jig clamp) it becomes more noticeable when you start offsetting the vane or feather with a heavy helical offset. I use an 11* helical offset in a LH jig for maximum stabilization of my arrows shot from my 52lb. Longbows and recurve.

Left or right will come into play with feathers and single bevel broadheads. For compound bow, vanes, and mechanical broadheads just keep them all the same.

For plastic vanes there is no left and right, for feathers there is definitely a left and right. For compound shooting, making them all the same is more important than left or right twist.

This is the style my father uses but straight fletchings. I can tell you hes horrible mechanically so if this works for him anyone can do it.
