Artist Creates Fabric That Can Fool Facial Recognition Tech

A German artist has revealed a new technology that he hopes will make it easier for individuals to avoid the growing Surveillance State.

Adam Harvey is an artist and “technologist” based in Berlin, Germany who is well known for using his artistic prowess to create art and fashion that could potentially disrupt the capability of facial recognition technology. Harvey has been profiled in the past for his elaborate ideas on styling hair and makeup in a way that prevents faces from being recognized by surveillance cameras outfitted with facial recognition software.

He is now working on a new project called Hyperface. Harvey is working with international interaction studio Hyphen-Labs and plans to release full details later this month. The Guardian reports:

In the interest of public safety, it shall be illegal to wear a mask in public, with the exception of Halloween for children under the age of 12. No facial hair that covers the jaw line or mouth will be permitted while in public view unless expressly covered under the religion of the child molesting allah. Women who cover their faces under this same religion will be allowed to do so, but if you are white, and christian you cannot. No wearing of masks in cold weather will be allowed. The only exception to these new proposed laws will be for those who have detectable chips inserted so that they can be identified by the newly installed SMCCS (Satellite monitored citizen chip system) at all times.

Probably too late for this, facial recognition has been used for too long already. The guy that robbed a bank in Rochester randomly ended up in Binghamton and they nabbed him, but wouldn't say how they knew it was him. Cameras everywhere in Binghamton, and most likely everywhere else. I've listened to Binghamton PD on the scanner asking to switch cameras to follow people around town.
