Secondly, I'm willing to bet that he had not one AK-47 rifle either, bet rather just semi auto rifles common in 99% of the united states that look like ak-47's with the included crappy bump stock.

He was arrested for guns that're legal almost everywhere else in the country. Most people can't even tell the difference from a cobray m11a1 and a micro uzi, let alone reporters and media. They use terms like "assault weapon" "assault rifle" and have no idea what it means or what the differences are. Uzi's are not even common anymore. Usually they're lookalike derivative designs from machine pistols like mpa's or cobray's, military armament based mac 10's and 11's you see around these days that people call uzi's. Most uzi pistols aren't cheap anymore either, you can find kits, but the parts needed don't make it really cheap or effective to build one. A lot of them have 16 inch barrels from being rifles at one point. Most of them are compliant and without certain full auto features that are banned and not legal to sell in combination like the open bolts or ratcheting mechanism for an example, unless it's a cut receiver kit you purchase separately it may contain some of the the necessary parts. There's more required than a hand file to get rid of the selector blocker, but at the end of the day almost any semi auto can be converted in some fashion to fire full auto. Most important a buyer is going to want something reliable, sellers don't want bad reputations going around. It's easier and cost effective to deal with common guns that are easily accessible to the general public to then flip to put onto the black market.

In fairness I did fail to specify in my post that it's an hour with a file (or 10 minutes with a Dremel) and a parts kit as you need to swap the bolt, barrel and lower grip. But still the second easiest conversion I have experience with (number one being an open bolt TEC-9 conversion, which is ridiculously easy).

You know what's even easier? an open bolt mac 10. It requires only one abrasive tool to shave down just some material on the disconnector. Do you regularly convert semi autos to full auto, or is it just a pastime activity?
