Requires firearms manufacturers to include global positioning system technology to allow a stolen firearm to be tracked.

Really my battery died....
new campaign....change the batteries in your guns when you change them in your fire alarms!!! Then again the now have some special battery and you just throw em away after 10 years or something.........so there goes that idea....

Because GPS is infallible... wow the staggering ignorance of these people. I drive for a living, and perhaps use GPS more than the next person, and I've seen some wicked glitches. A few years back, in Vermont, had my dispatcher call me up asking where on earth I was. Apparently the GPS in the truck was reporting that I was some miles offshore in the Atlantic, instead of traveling I-91 southbound. Apparently this made all kinds of alarms go off back at the office.
Anyone else ever spoof GPS by retransmitting altered NMEA streams on one of the GPS radio frequencies and overwhelming the signal coming from the satellite?

Much of the antigun bills come from gun control organizations themselves. They shop "model" legislation around to state legislatures and local municipalities around the country.
As for this particular idea, I don't know. Ortiz has a history of bullshit bills. He might have dreamed this one up himself.

We just will not be able to buy new firearms in NY State.. . Is this a backdoor gun registration ?
would this tracker be hung on the rail ? if so the criminal could remove it. The deep state would love this ... Tracking every person with a CC permit ... That is carrying ... ... Can see it now ... LEO'S breaking down your door at 2 AM ... You are under arrest because you were a foot too close to a restricted area ... (school ) yesterday morning at 5 am while on your daily morning walk ... Our records show that this is a deviation from your usual route ... explain ....

Anyone who takes this at face value is fooling themselves. This is not about tracking your guns. This isn't even about tracking YOU, though that is a pleasant side benefit for these Tyrants.
This is about making the cost of buying a gun too high for "normal people". Whether through actual cost or the hoops you have to jump through to obtain one.
