A bill that would place new taxes on wine and beer sales would raise $260 million meant for addiction prevention and recovery programs.

That bill, backed by Assemblyman Michael DenDekker, would add 3 cents to the price of a 12 ounce can of beer and 2 cents per glass of wine. Ten cents would be added to the price of a shot.

“Substance abuse of any kind is deeply troubling, but addiction to alcohol has proven particularly damaging not only because of its corrosive effects on physical and mental development but also because of its role as a gateway drug,” DenDekker said.

The office of climate change shall return sixty percent of all
20 carbon dioxide emissions charge proceeds to very low to moderate income
21 residents of the state in the form of tax credits in order to offset the
22 regressive nature of such fees. The amount of such credit shall be based
23 on estimates and averages of expense and consumption trends for very low
24 to moderate income residents determined by the office of climate change
25 in conjunction with the department in accordance with section two
26 hundred eighty-nine-k of this article. Such credit shall be progressive-
27 ly issued to very low to moderate income residents. Such income catego-
28 ries shall mean those with income below fifty percent for very low
29 income residents, income between fifty and eighty percent for low income
30 residents, and income between eighty-one and one hundred fifteen percent
31 for moderate income residents, of the area median income as determined
32 by the department of housing and urban development.

Perfectly legal to make your own beer and wine. Not so with liquor. This is something I really detest because I love making beer and cider and I’m sure I could make some great booze.

Possession of a still greater than 1 gallon is a felony in NY. And you can be damn sure if you get caught not only is ATF gonna be up in your shit, worse yet is gonna be the tax man trying to prove you’ve been selling it.

A couple years ago they almost legalized it federally for home distillers (just like beer and wine) didn’t pass tho.

I believe the .gov already gets $25 per gallon on hooch, money the .gov gets drunk on so they spend 25 times that on something stupid.
