Assemblyman introduces petition to support splitting NY three ways

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Assemblyman David DiPietro, a Republican from East Aurora, has introduced a bill that would create a constitutional amendment to split New York State into three autonomous regions.

Now, people are able to sign a petition to support this bill.

The three regions would include:

New York - Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, and Richmond counties

Montauk - Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, and Westchester counties

New Amsterdam - every county north of Westchester county

In a news release, DiPietro states that each region would elect its own governor, legislature, and judicial wing to be responsible for its own management.

DiPietro has clarified that the regions would not be three separate states. For federal purposes, New York would remain as one state.


He said that under his proposal, New York State would maintain its 2 U.S. Senators and 29 electoral votes (subject to change based on population).

DiPietro told News 4 that the move to have Upstate New York separate from Downstate would make the region "redder than Texas."

I don’t want Albany in New Amsterdam. They need to go to NYC.

The idea being that all the assemblymen and women as well as senators from down state would go back down state to represent only NYC. Albany would be filled with only reps from New Amsterdam. Each region would have it's own separate government and governor. So Albany would be different than it is now, even though it's a blue county.

Im so far north in Westchester that i have a putnum county mailing address, my town is quite red too... i only wish i bought a house 100ft further north so id physically be in putnum.

This wont fly, the left has full control of the state. The assembly, the senate, the governor and most courts are all left. They will not relinquish power.

Not the way you think. Each of the three would be autonomous as separate states. The 3 governors, assembly's and senates would be running separate states. Only at the federal level would NY remain the way it is. This way the procress would circumvent congress's approval for breaking up NY into three different states.
